I've been sleeping on Changi departure hall before, flying from Bangkok after a business meeting. But my night flight to Jakarta got cancelled, and the only flight available are on the morning at nine. I then choose to sleep on the departure hall, and the gentleman at the information are nice enough to lend me a blanket. It was a nice blanket, purple with "Changi Airport" written on it. Then in the morning I return the blanket to the information desk. But the guy there told me I can keep it if I want to. I still have the blanket until this day, six year have passed and it still provide me warmth... Thank you ❤️

Did notice too that baggage unloading is relatively faster @ Changi than the other airports I've been to, though 10min is quite a stretch (usually ~1/2h for me). Then again I remember my mother being incensed when one of our flights' baggage unloading was delayed by a thunderstorm ("How're so unprepared for this? Thunderstorms are common here"), but later realised it can be quite hard to prepare for (the delay is due to lightning risk preventing baggage unloaders from working). But the effect is still rather nasty - thunderstorms can last over an hour here in Singapore, & in the monsoon season (usu Nov-Feb, though it was present in June 2020 too) they can happen almost daily. Imagine the knock-on effect on aircrafts' timetables as a result. Maybe a solution can be devised e.g. portable shelters for baggage unloaders, or automating the process

Best airport indeed, we got stuck in the airport cause the airlines didn't show up at the checkin, no staff what so ever, no emails or calls, and passengers within the same flight has started to pile up. Changi staff took notice and approached us to know what was happening. Immediately contacted the airlines, but no answer, after 3 hours of staying with us and nonstop trying to get a hold on the airline company, someone finally picked up the phone and said that the plane never left from the country of origin and the flight was cancelled, no other explanation was given by the airlines. After one more hour, changi staff still trying to work things out with the airlines and manage finally confirmed that we would be rebooked for a next day flight. They tried their best, while the airlines didn't give two shits about us, none of their staff were present, there's no text, no emails, no calls to inform the passengers that the flight was cancelled. Can definitely say they are the best airport, they even gave us blankets, water and food. Think there's also been some debate/controversy over whether lower-skilled/migrant foreign workers in Singapore have too little bargaining power. In 1 way Singapore's pretty open; with almost 40% of the population being non-citizens. On the other hand over half of that 40% are "work permit" holders (for lower-skilled/migrant foreign workers) who face relatively more onerous regulations e.g. permit to be renewed every 2 years till a max of 18 years, a tax of ~S$300/worker/month, need for health check-ups twice annually, their legal ability to stay in Singapore being dependent on their specific employment (i.e. they can't change jobs without returning to their home country & re-applying), which has been believed to discourage the workers from speaking out against egregious work conditions, for fear of termination which will then lead to their repatriation. I understand the Phillippines (& Indonesia as well, soon) has also asked for maids' placement fees to be paid by their employers instead of by their maids, to help relieve them of their debts, and also as that's been regarded to violate some international workers' rights' conventions (along with the not uncommon practice of employers retaining maids' passports). The reason for that though is that employers want to deter maids from absconding, which would cause financial penalties for the employers under Singapore's immigration laws (a deposit of a few thousand $ has to be put up by the employer to the immigration authorities). Maybe a compromise solution can be found? e.g. splitting the fee between both the maids & their employers
@Tamaki7424 жыл бұрын
@@lzh4950 The splitting up part would have been fine if the workers from Indonesia went through the formal channels, backed from the government. Thing is there are cases where they just went with the dubious ones and that's harder to regulate.

My dad was traveling home from Myanmar to Canada and layover at Taipei airport in the early morning hours. His wallet had been stolen without him realizing it while he dozed off. He was hard of hearing and disabled. He couldn't call us because he had forgotten to switch his phone carrier from Burmese to the Canadian one. While he was sitting there waiting and looking, a cleaner/janitor lady came up to him and offered him coffee and cake. He was so grateful because he said he was so hungry and the cleaner was a God-send. I still believe in good people.

Also since the safety & medical cars still sport the old F1 logo, & since they're being shipped from Singapore to Japan, I figure the earliest this documentary was being filmed is way back in 2015 (2016-2017 would've been _Sepang_ instead of _Suzuka_ circuit immediately following Marina Bay St Circuit in the F1 calendar, while 2018 onward it would've been _Sochi Autodrom_ in place of _Sepang_)
