Countable v Measurable. When we say things like "the coffees are cold" we imply other words which will show why we use a plural verb. That may be, as you mentioned, "the cups of coffee are cold" which shows that we're talking about the individual cups, not the coffee as made.

i always get confused with singular or plural verbs . when i asked google bard to solve the problem of : A herd of cows ................................ grazing in the field (is/ are) the chatbot google bard answered me A herd of cows are grazing in the field but your answer is different your answer is A herd of cows is grazing in the field. what is this ? singular or plural verb very confusion.

I already answered this comment. I can't respond to all of your questions, but I did answer this one previously. The answer is "A herd of cows IS grazing." The subject is herd. Google Bard doesn't always answer correctly! Watch my video on collective nouns. (Part 2)
