Well, Mister David, I have something to tell you. About eight years ago, my friend introduced me to the Split Enz LP "True Colours' and I instantly responded to "Double Happy" and "Shark Attack" and have since become a huge Split Enz fan. Now zoom to the present... Two days ago, a different friend of mine introduced me to the Sparks' song "Amateur Hour", which I have to say upon first time listen rocked my world like no other song ever has. Zoomed right to the top of favorite songs for me. So I was super excited to talk to my first friend and ask if he was familiar with the group Sparks/song "Amateur Hour" (I'd never heard of this group before.) Not only had my friend heard of them, but turns out that Sparks is his favorite group of all time!!! All these cool instances of being in sync! Woah!! And then I proceeded to tell him the only other song I could think of that came close to equalling the off-the-charts high energy of "Amateur Hour" was the wild off-the-charts high energy of "Shark Attack"!! Reading your post just now put a real big smile on my face and I had to share my recent story and that YOU have greatly contributed to the synchronicity!!! So, so cool!! Thank you!!!

Despite their offbeat appearance, Split Enz were quite conventional music wise. I remember reading that the Enz and The Birthday Party were recording in the same Melbourne studio and when the Enz members heard The Birthday Parties music they commented to the effect of "what are you doing, you'll never be successful sounding like that". Success didn't seem to be foremost in The Birthday Parties mind, and they returned to London after recording to forge their uncompromising careers, firstly with that band and then as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
