I prefer to prep my GFCI before I start installing it: pull the tape if it will be feeding load side devices and back out all the screws that are going to be used. I also prefer to assemble the two receptacles, first, in an installation like that - put them back to back with one inverted, and then it is easy to set the pigtails on both, connect the line side wires, and then twist the second receptacle into place alongside the first. there's also a trick to gripping the devices as you place them in the box that lets you use your fingertips to guide the wires to fold where you want them to. it's not so slick in shallow boxes like that, but in full depth boxes, there is usually no further dressing of the wires needed. and I prefer the Milwaukee surge as my power driver. it runs quieter than an impact driver, and is available in 12 or 18V.

I think you won, Bill. Your receptacles are straighter and there is less chance of the wires working loose. That push tool you have shown before and it really seems to work well or you have learned to use it well. I also think your approach to the wiring seemed more thought out but that could be the stress of competition as well.
@SparkyChannel

Thanks Jeff! Yes, the competitors have to do a lot of different tasks during a round and the work and the stress of the competition can make even the young guys tired. Sometimes I'll be filming a competition and I'll be thinking they should do something a different way. LOL!

My home was built in 1948 in Washington DC. I swithed out ALL of the old 2 prong outlets and grounded them all by watching you channel. (Not A Single Outlet Was Grouned). My new question for today 11/2022 is: While attempting to install a new ceiling fan with remote, I noticed old wiring sheathing/covering was barely attached, seemingly withered with aging and some with no covering at all. I was successful with wiring the fan however upon tucking the wires in the small ceiling electrical box I turned on the breaker swith just to find that the entire circuit shut down on me. I slept until the next day to come back and undo the wiring work just to find that probably the bare wire (Somewhere) was making contact with the electrical box or another wire. The electic is up and running again but the fan project is at a standstill. Can I fix the bare wiring issue without having to demolish the ceiling and wll for new wiring? SORRY FOR THE LONG MESSAGE.

I would have fed the wires down to the receptical. Lot of waste the shown way. I think thet should of used the same Covers. Tightening the Screws before installing the cover was a mistake. Sparky should have installed the 4 screws he didn't Install. Don't mean to Critize. Do want to Pass on Experience as you all do. Stratmando

What 4 screws did I not install?
@glasshalffull8625
@glasshalffull8625 2 жыл бұрын
The metal flanges on the receptacle on the right blocked the screw holes. The strange thing about the weather proof box is that in the corners it had 4 locations for screws, but the cover had only impressions and no holes to put a screw through. Box is probably set up for a whole host of set ups, so I give Sparky the benefit of the doubt. 😉

Why did you use an impact driver for the screws? Wouldn't it be better to use a drill without the impact? It seems that the screws or the box could be damaged using the impact driver.
@SparkyChannel

The impact feature doesn't engage for such light duty work. The 12V impacts are very small and light now, with great variable speed triggers. They have really come a long way. This makes them great for such quick tasks.

Confused how the longer screws WERE IN PLACE before putting on the cover. Caulking necessary?
@SparkyChannel
@SparkyChannel 2 жыл бұрын
That's the way it's done on the Sealproof weatherproof cover. You install the longer screws a little into each of the 4 holes. Then, with the receptacles placed well into position, the Sealproof cover is slid from left to right onto the screws. Then the screws are tightened. You could also put the cover into place first, then install the screws if you like.
