Yeah I've seen a few reactors that haven't watched the anime have trouble with this, I guess it's a flaw in the storytelling of the live action that this isn't made clear. I think in the anime/manga whenever someone has a devil fruit it pretty much introduces it straight away in big writing on the screen on the name of the fruit and stuff.

@@Piriguin_aweoneke Usopp is very delusional about many things. He loves and is proud of someone who abandoned him as a baby and his dying mother. Of course youknowwho's dad and basically all dads in this anime are not better and yet they're treated as heroes. But we must not forget that Oda has this traditional Japanese anime mentality where it's normal for the father to go to live adventures or do whatever he wants and disappear for years and still be a hero to a son he doesn't know. (HunterxHunter, MHA, DBZ...)

Usopp is incredibly aware of everything even more so than luffy sometimes, that's a big part of why he's scared all the time, yasopp was being supported by his wife who later tought their son to be as well, and I'm not quite sure what you mean by "all dads in this anime are heroes" because, most of the fathers of one piece are treated as gray characters and/or can be replaced in a found family of your choosing, for example luffy himself who's willing to call his father dad without animosity nor respect either, he doesn't see him as anything but who he is in the most literal and factual way there is, just his dad; some you know who's very close to luffy's childhood that both hate their biological fathers with their guts and later on find a father figure to love and respect, and "youknowwho's" dad is very clearly an antagonist hated by everyone and only respected by those who don't know him personally, He's an abusive and manipulative male figure that's treated and acknowledged as such, all of the fathers of the main crew are either like this, unexisting and/or unimportant, or loving father figures that aren't blood related to their children, the only biological fathers that are regarded as heroes are side characters from different arcs, if you think about it, oda has a very unique mentality of the meaning of family for his time, if anything oda's view is that family isn't perfect, and if you aren't loved by your biological family, you can go out and find one that does

To answer some of your questions: 1. Not everyone that has what appears to be superhuman abilities is a devil fruit-eater. As a general rule of thumb, devil fruit powers tend to be very fantastical, like Buggy's or Luffy's. Super strength & speed alone are generally not devil fruit powers. It's an anime trope that people can achieve what we would consider superhuman strength or speed thru intense training... Another general rule is that if someone has devil fruit powers, they will let you know about it, usually by calling out their move or something or just explaining it to someone almost immediately. Also, there are some non-devil fruit powers some people have which is only hinted at during the early part of the anime, so probably won't be mentioned a lot in any Netflix seasons going forward. The only example of it so far is Shanks turning away the sea beast in episode 2. 2. Spartan, you shouldn't feel bad if you didn't catch Kuro poisoning Kaya. The plot in the Syrup Village arc is very different than in the anime... Also, it's fine that you didn't remember that scene between Arlong & Buggy from the anime b/c it didn't happen in the anime. Arlong & Buggy's roles are significantly expanded from the anime. 3. Kuro was hired by Kaya's family. He tells her in this episode that he was taken in by her family when he had nothing. That happened only about 3 yrs. ago, so when Kaya was a teenager. 4. Usopp's father, Yasopp, is Shanks' crewmember who is black & well-built (as opposed to the heavy set black guy who's always carrying a leg of lamb). He's the guy who did the trick shot in the bar fight in the last episode. He has his name on his headband, but it's not surprising if you missed it, b/c the lettering is largely obscured by his hair.

Thank you both for sticking with this series! As others have noted, there's no reason to assume that every strange or fantastic-looking ability comes from a Devil Fruit. As you go on, you'll discover that there are many, many ways to become powerful in this world. It's not surprising that Spartan doesn't know, since a) he says he stopped watching the anime well before other powers were properly introduced; b) the first two episodes featured Devil Fruit users; and c) the live action series hasn't explained other kinds of powers very well, and is even intentionally keeping some of them a secret. Keep with it, and you'll understand more and more of this weird, wild world.

Apparently some people look down on devil fruit eaters for that reason - the fact that it is basically possible to become super strong and super fast and all sorts of other things if you're willing to put in the work, just eating a fruit and getting those abilities seems like taking the easy way. Arlong is strong but that's mostly because fishmen (his species - fish-human hybrids, similar to merfolk except they have four limbs and gills and their fish appearance isn't limited to their lower half, plus they come with more variety in types of fish they resemble, i.e. Arlong is a saw-shark hybrid, Kuroobi the fishman who knocked out Buggy is a ray hybrid) are generally three times stronger than regular humans (though Arlong is apparently stronger than most). They don't catch fire and their skin is tougher than bullets. As we'll see later, the fishmen.....well, they don't have a lot of reasons to be friendly towards humans....though I think some have had relationships with humans because there are human-fishman hybrids, also merfolk-fishman hybrids as well.

The evil helper that wants to kill the rich victim with false kindness is a common trope (cliche). Kaiya's staff were so camp - mean mugging and hissing their way through the script it was beyond obvious but thats the over the top vibe of the show. It mixes light with a few interesting dark bits that stand out more because of it. Next one's a doozy!

I found this episode to be the low point of the series, it has a lot of whimsical characters that honestly are more believable in the anime. That said, its not really a bad episode, just that the others are better. (I've never really liked Usopp though, so that probably has something to do with it!)

I think it's a low point as well. Usopp's actor is terrible at delivering on those important sad/sentimental scenes. Zoro's flashback and the Klahadore's acting are pretty much the only highlights of these two episodes.

The only thing missing from this story is Jango, in anime Jango is vice captain of Kuro,he has been waiting patienly and loyal for 2 years for this perfect plan created by Kuro, and also he has the ability to Hypnotize. The plan was perfect, He hypnotize Kaya to signed the paper before they kill her. And then kuro retired in wealth and peace according to the plan, But in this Live action Is sooooooo stupid and lazy writing, kuro's power Is silent Walk but they made him like a speedster vampire, and then the plot is also stupid, i mean kuro killed kaya then what? I dont think the people Of syrup village and the shipyard workers are gonna Accepted that, they will Call The Marines for Suspicious Death of kaya, Marines gonna arrest kuro before he can enjoy the wealth and peace as his goal

Wdym, lazy writing. It wouldnt be a suspicious death, everyone knew Kaya is sick and could die any moment. And Kuro did have her transfer the ownership to him in the series, signed the papers. Didnt have to hypnotize her. It´s simpler than anime, but it makes sense. Nobody would be suspicious and it would go through.
