I think what's happening here is the user tapping almost directly on the UI, rather than above it. VisionOS has depth sensors, so that would be perceived as the hands being behind the UI, therefore getting layered below. I think for accessibility, probably then the UI gets slightly transparent so you can still see your hands. We've seen this in demos of the table top games.

Now they just need to use AI to turn Google Street View into 3d. That way one could drive around and explore the world from the sofa.

so unintuitive. Google Earth from years ago was so much better in VR when it first launched. This just looks like a student project using Google's API.
