I just thought I should re-visit this...for all those who thought SeaFoam damages engines... It's now FOUR years later, and the engine still runs like a sewing machine. Still with the renewed power and economy that this procedure provided.

1986 was the first year for the injected 2.5 liter 4 cylinder in the Mopar K-Cars. That engine replaced a carbed Mitsubishi built 2.6 liter engine. That Chrysler K-Car New Yorker is a nice car. Quite a few of them came with the turbo version of the 2.2 liter engine. And with the digital displays in the instrument cluster and A/C controls, it is more high-tech than the RWD Chrysler Fifth Ave. I bet the people who bought those cars new in the 1980s were between 40-50 years old.

If you count each individual contained VFD, there are 9 VFD displays in that car. The car is rated at around 3900lbs empty. So with a full tank of gas, and 2 passengers, we were probably weighing around 4400lbs. It was reading about 11-12mpg climbing the hill.

Good choice on the Dart -- I test-drove one with the turbo engine and 6-speed manual and it was fun to drive. Your New Yorker looks great and sounds like it's running very smoothly now. :-)

Cosmetically was mainly just cleaning and polishing, new vinyl roof and headliner is all. Mechanically, other than normal maintenance items, I've done nothing to it either. It does just float over bumps, but for riding as soft as it does, it handles quite well.

Now here’s something that’s kind of interesting, this video was uploaded on the 17th of April which ironically was the very day the Ford Mustang debuted in 1964 which was one of Lee Iacocca’s cars. This video also happens to have a creation from Lee Iacocca, a variant/derivative of the Chrysler K Car. While the Mustang is a iconic car from the 1960’s, more of a full sized Ford Galaxie 500/LTD guy. Ironically, those were styled by Elwood Engle who styled the ‘61 Lincoln Continental along with a 1962 Mercury proposal which eventually became the ‘65 and ‘66 Ford Galaxie 500/LTD. Elwood Engle eventually found himself at Chrysler Corporation when the ‘62 lineup which was styled by Virgil Exner ended up being a flop, that explains why Chryslers and Fords of the 60’s have a similar look to one another since they were styled by the same person, Elwood Engle.

You're missing it. Seafoam is a petroleum product that can clean fuel injectors, pistons, valves, etc. In the video we sucked it in per the instructions through a vacuum line. Before finishing purposely stalling the engine with it to soak everything. Leave sit for 20 minutes, restart. The white smoke is the carbon buildup being expelled out of the engine through the exhaust. Afterwards the car is running even better, and my mpg even went up with it since the engine has been cleaned out.

No, the original owners had it repainted 10-15 years ago. While the color does look good, lots of imperfections in it (that you cannot see on camera). I plan on getting it repainted back to factory color (sky blue) and finish putting the trim back on the car.

Great videos, guys! I laughed so hard the tears ran down my leg! 10:20, "Move it or get a New Yorker enema"! Crapallier! Ha! I own and daily drive an '87 Reliant, 2.2, LE. Clean and rust free, pushing 140k. So far one timing belt, one head gasket, three sets of axles plus a lot of little stuff she needed to keep her going. Runs rough during cool weather, great when it's warm out. 15 MPG city right now. Every shop I bring her to seems stupified by OBD1 technology. No one has been able to get her to run as well as she should. Hundreds of dollars later and nothing they 'fixed' did a lick of good! Still, she starts and runs every day, although rough and thirsty. I tried Sea Foam couple months ago by pouring some into the fuel tank, according to the directions. Didn't seem to do much of anything. That's not to knock Sea Foam, I know it's been trusted by professionals like yourselves for generations. Any further tips you can give me on Sea Foam's use? Anywho, I'm totally digging your car! It's 'grandma fresh'! I've sat in some 'Yorkers at the old Plymouth dealership I once worked for and in the local Pick-Your-Parts yards in my area (poor ol' Mopars! Yes, people do junk nice old cars for stupid reasons!) Wish I had a talking box like yours, but when they show up on E-Bay they go for around $500! Does your car run at weird temps, like the temp reading goes up and down like a damn see-saw? Mine does. I've tried everything from new thermostats, flushes, sending units, radiator caps to witch doctors trying to chase out the evil spirits and air bubbles in the cooling system. Nothing seems to work. Well, again, great car and thanks for the ride!

Um, we have friends that are "real" mechanics that do it for a living, and they use Seafoam regularly. We discussed this comment last night, and again, never heard of any claims of it being hard on the engine or damaging it. Harley's last car just turned 300K miles before trading it in. Seafoamed it about once every 100K miles and never had any issues. All it did was clean the car and make it run like new again.

The 1986 Chrysler New Yorker weighs 2,719 pounds and has a 103.3-inch wheelbase, and is 187.2 inches long. It has two engine options: A standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 100 horsepower at 4,800 rpm An optional turbo four that produces 146 horsepower at 5,200 rpm

First of all, Seafoam has been around for 70 years. Never caused engine damage. Gaskets have NOTHING to do with it. The only "damage" will be if engine parts are ALREADY damaged. Every type of automotive gasket on the market has been tested by submerging in Seafoam for 3 YEARS and there was NO gasket damage. I don't give a damn what the almighty INTERNET says, I use it, always impressive results. We are both engineers. We don't need Internet heresay...we can figure things out for ourselves.

Yeah, looking to get rid of mine within the next year. XP When you take this car through a carwash, do you notice any leaks? My parents had a 1985 LeBaron GTS (with voice alerts!) when I was little. Probably the most memorable car of any of my parents cars. I remember it leaked some.

The other factor here is that you lot take care of your rigs quite well, there may not be all that much build-up in there in the first place.. in your case I'm sure it was fine.. I was only making a point for the others here that may not have taken such great care of their rigs and expect a miracle from Seafoam.. I apologize if I come across as a prick, just didn't want some of your potentially inexperienced viewers gettin' into some trouble. Cheers mate.

One day I would like to own a Reliant K Car again owned two different models. The first one was brown gold color and was a Aries 1984. This one the engine bay caught on fire due to a recall that never was fixed. Then the newer model was a Reliant K two door model gray in color and had the bucket seats and center console. The engine died on this one due to Walmart not tightening the oil filter on. I would never let them touch a car. Then had the engine replaced with a turbo then sold it off.

Hey , just wanted to add a correction. This new yorker isn't anywhere close to 4000 lbs even with all the oils and even a full tank of gas , not even 10 extra full tanks of gas would bring it to 4000 lbs lol. Curb weight of this a new yorker is roughly 2850 lbs, with a full tank and the 2 of you in it I'd say you were at around 3300-3350 LBS on this drive.

Here's the deal, it's not the Seafoam ITSELF that is the issue, it's burning all that shit through the engine that CAN cause the damage.. doesn't always do it, just not exactly very nice to the engine, and while it WILL run better for a time, it IS very hard on it.. ask a "real" mechanic about this and they will tell you. EricTheCarGuy is one such person on KZbin I'd poke about it; scottykilmer is another.
