I loved David and Monti Sharp. The character was never the same when they brought David back.

I loved Guiding Light in the 90s, and David was one of the best characters. The scene where David apologized to the family and the aunt accepted is one of my favorite scenes ever.

I still miss the good old days growing up in the 80d and 90s watching the guiding with my grandma and mother.It brings back memories everytime I get home from school and getting ready for work they have GL on at 3:00.

Monty Sharp is one hell of a actor as the original David.I remember he moved to One life to Live shortly after leaving GL.

Monty Sharp was by far the best David. The actors after him didn't have the same depth that Monty had in portraying David Grant.

Also, David and Frank were like a combination of Gillespie and Tibbs from In The Heat of The Night and Finn and Stabler from SVU

I remember Sharp. Find it funny David had to "whiten up" to become a police officer.

+Richard Fuller How did they even justify that colorist re-casting?
@2up3rm4n15 жыл бұрын
@@RhaegarTargaryen1stI don't remember that second guy, and if I even saw him, I didn't realize it was supposed to be the same character as Sharp. This is nothing where soaps and general entertainment casting are concerned anyway, and it is actually getting more common, as now we still will not get BLACK-looking characters, but 'people of color' and if you ask what their nationality is, "gyah! what difference does it make?" But this all really is nothing new, and all goes back to the house slaves being lighter than the field slaves, or the joke Julian Bond and Garrett Morris did on Saturday Night Life, about "light-skinned negros being smarter than dark-skinned negros". But that's all this is; harmless casting? It still projects the same image and idea. I'm sure this casting wasn't even addressed. Other soaps have done this as well, ushering in an astonishingly light performer after the previous dark actor left. On One Life To Live, a character named Blair was introduced played by an Asian actress, with long black hair. When the character was recast after the first actress left-departed-was written out, her replacement was an Aryan blonde, who is currently on Days of Our Lives. One of the funniest to me still is Santa Barbara wanting to delve into interracial romance by casting a young black girl to become involved with a white guy. They cast an actress who was more Latino than black, so "she can't portray an African-American character" and they still brought her on the show. I was like, why not cast a BLACK actress, young girl for the role, instead of these mixed race girls? But it's what they do and actually it is getting worse. Not to fault the people of mixed heritage, but the fault is in those who deem them accepted as tho they speak for a race, or are a voice and face of a race, when they aren't. People like Monti Sharp here and Darnell Williams on AMC, those were the groundbreakers. But look where it has taken us; the lesson of the musical Showboat was 'one drop of black blood makes you black' so these people can be light skinned, have small noses and wavy blonde hair, but they are supposed to be 'black'.

it was a shame David never came back. I would have liked for him to come back in 2005 during the time when Alan murdered Phillip and he, Frank, Gus, and Mallet (the four of them) can reunite and work together and be good pals again, and then David can flirt with Mel and she can end up with David at the end instead of Cyrus

I started watching watching GL in 1998 so I didn’t see the early David storylines. How old was he supposed to be when he arrived? When I first heard of the story I thought he was close to his teens but if he had been in prison for six years, he was probably older.

Saw David #3 in some 2000s episodes, didn't remember the character..I guess Mel took his place as the main black character 😊
