Hey ladyranger! ^^ To get rid of that fence in your hand, all you need to do is click 'e'- that should bring up your inventory where you can store more stuff, but most importantly you can take your fence outta your hand!! :D There should be a box next to your minecraft avatar with the fence in it :) all you need to do is drag it out of the box!

Go into your inventory and the gate should be in your offhand slot, you should be able to drag it out and into your main inventory (e to go to the block selection menu, should be under one of the tabs), there is also a button that swaps it into an empty bar slot (try F to start)

For the fence use the swem fence and you can use pliers to cut the fence so you a fence and a half

You should try to use the shovel on grass in random places to make it look like the horses have been walking on it, hope this helps. 😁

You can trim half of the top part of the fence which looks better and keeps the horses in, I think you use the pliers but I'm not sure
