You guys have literally become #1 on youtube for me. I hope you one day come back into the magazine world. Our scene is really missing the likes of your talent for another Sport Compact Car or Modified. Great job guys anywhere we can buy shirts to help support?

+Kevin Parra I miss Sport Compact Car. It was a great magazine with intelligent articles and insight into how to improve a car's performance. I think ultimately though, it was ahead of it's target market. Most people modifying compacts were 18-25 at the time, and weren't really interested in deep technical information.

SCC was a huge influence on us, too. Oh Kevin Parra to answer your question about buying t-shirts, we'll be launching a Shopify page soon where you'll be able to buy our shirts, stickers, patches, etc. The ASS2k Fund appreciates your support! :)

I'm loving what you did with the Honda and the ITBs are going to be a great choice. It's a bit different from what most people do, however if you do it successfully it's going to be unique and amazing. Normally I am a huge fan of black, but I think this car would look the best with a darker, less glossy grey paint job. Gunmetal grey and variations of it with a slight green or blue tint stand out so much from stock paint colors, not to mention they harmonize with carbon parts very well.

+MVP_86 we'd love to do a tire comparo. The challenge is to do it in a properly scientific way, which would require fresh rubber so that everyone's on evening footing. You guys Rock!!!! I have an AP1 in New Formula Red that I've decided I need to start showing some love. I just bought my "dream car" (Gen V Viper GTS in Adrenaline Red) back in May, and I'm going to start turning my attention to the good old S2000, since all my time up till that purchase has been spent on modding my '08 STi. I've just spent the better part of a rainy Labour Day weekend Sunday watching all of your videos back to back: really entertaining!! I like the fact that you don't take yourselves, or the project, too seriously. That's what it's all about right? Fun. Anyway, I know you're stoked about your ITBs and your AEM ECU, but let's face it, making real power out of the AP1's F20C is all about forced induction. I've done a fair amount of research on this subject, and as far as I can tell, Science of Speed makes a pretty sweet Stage 1 bolt on supercharger kit that nets 100 WHP without a tune!!! Perfect for a guy like me in the middle of nowhere (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) without access to a tuner etc. Anyway, I'm lovin' your posts, and very curious to see what happens in terms of power delivery once you've got a tune/AEM cold air/ITBs/AEM ECU. I guess my only point is that the SOS kit is $5,400 US and can be bolted on in a weekend. It's a better way to go IMHO. Cheers.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Lee Douglas Forced induction is the best way to make big power but we think it may upset the great balance of power/weight/handling that is so perfect and right with the ASS2000 right now. We may experiment with a blower next year though!
@polarbear1110009 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy yep, "each to his own" for sure. I think you'll find a lot more interest in the project if you choose to take the now "BADASS2000" in a forced induction direction, particularly if you were to get one of the popular kits and detail the install, which I haven't seen done. The supercharger kit, from SOS appears to be a pretty straightforward add on. The TS-Turbo Kit, however, appears to require more work, such as an upgraded fuel system, EMS (which you have), and some changes to various other components of the car. It would be the more "adventurous" route, and would provide the biggest power gains, but the supercharger would be cheaper, require less modification, and would retain the balance between power/weight/handling etc. because the power delivery is very linear. Anyway, I look forward to your future modifications. I have subscribed ;) Cheers.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Lee Douglas That's what we're here to do! Test parts and see how they work. We've been contemplating doing a NA vs Supercharger vs Turbo project on the S2k since it's such a popular platform and there are loads of options out there. Now if we can only find the funds to support all those parts haha.
@polarbear1110009 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy isn't that the truth!!! I tell myself it's a good thing I don't have all the money to perform the modifications on my list, because I'd get bored pretty quick. It's good to have a list. At least, that's what I tell myself........... With respect to cost, I have canvassed the intraweb on how much people have put into their S2000 when moving up to a FI Turbo set-up, and from what I can gather, $15,000-$20,000 is pretty much the standard. Supercharging seems like a much more economical route just to get the ball rolling. What surprises me the most, is the amount of power you can make with the F20C on stock internals. I am somewhat familiar with the construction of the block (i.e. lined cylinder sleeves) and I believe the con rods are titanium (not positive) but I'm not sure if the pistons were forged from the factory, or cast. Anyway, my tuner for my Subie (Airboy) isn't comfortable with more than 350 whp/tq on my STi before things start to get unreliable, without a water/meth injection set-up (something else to add to your list ;) which is less than I see being made on a regular basis without issue on the F20C. Kinda cool.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Lee Douglas The F20C makes crazy power on a stock block! We love it for that reason, make big power without worrying too much about reliability. Plus supercharger is much easier on the internals whereas the big torque hit of boost puts a lot of stress on the rods.

Bad ass! I didnt even have to see the Jenvey logo, i know a ITB setup and parts when I see one. I like the rolled fender look and the paint too. It gives it character. There are too many show cars out there now, people like to see cars that mean business. Rock chips, rubber dust on the fenders, grinds in the carbon splitter, etc. i say keep the same paint.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+jdmcommute we like your thinking! Less stress racing a car that isn't show car pretty.
@jdmcommute9 жыл бұрын
All the Bad Ass 2000 really needs to make it look pretty and clean up the fenders is a nice set of carbon fiber fender flares. Even some simple 3k ones for an S14 would probably fit. They are fairly cheap, it will allow you to cut out the rolled lip area completely while hiding the cuts under its carbon goodness! Plus it will flow well with the Seibon and C3 composites carbon you already have. That blue color will look mean with Carbon everywhere. Its a good backdrop in color scale, it makes the carbon pop. But you guys already got new fenders, so...it will look good though either way.

I'm curious to how much difference the aero really makes. Would be interesting to see before & after for straight line performance and lap times. But I guess that's a bit late now in the build, it would have been educational. I guess we could learn something also from sensors being installed on the suspension about levels of downforce, but that may be a bit too involved for this show. I would love to learn more about this. Using data acquisition specifically to tune suspension is fascinating, but hard to get practical info on

So badass2000 starts next week "aye"? I don't know about everyone else on here, but I bet it feels like we all have an s2000 watching these videos (I am actually lucky enough to own one). When a new video comes out, it feels like we get that package from ups with new parts. Can't wait for the next video. Thanks guys for satisfying our need. Just kidding about the "aye" lol.

You should paint it a dark cherry red, I think that would make it look so slick
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Pucker Punch We've had a lot of red cars in the past but thanks for the suggestion.

is a shorter final drive in the pipeline? going for a 4.57 or even a 4.4 really helps s2000's if your going N/A

Oh man, that will be awesome! Go with white. It doesn't show scratches and dents, plus white makes the curves pop out. Black would be nice, but it's a pain in the ass. Every scratch shows on black. I'd go with white. :3
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Atrax R We love white but the front always gets marked up from tire debris on the track so it's hard to go with that color for a track car.
@atraxr6039 жыл бұрын
Speed Academy Oh yea, rubber and stuff. I guess you're right. Military green? :D That would be kinda cool. Haven't seen one in that color.

Well now that you have the supporting mods for it I feel it's necessary you go strroker high comp. cnc speed shop stroker with the aem infinity and itbs you have the perfect combo for over 270whp. Itbs really show their worth on the strokers for these cars much more so over stock. And only for the price of 1100 dollars , can't beat it. It's literally just a k crank machined and some special made rods uses the stock Pistons so minimal work and no machining.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Eric Mikolaitis Sometimes less is more and building an engine seems overkill for this project, especially right now when it seems to be performing so well. You're right though, we've heard ITBs really come alive on stroker engines so maybe thats something for next year!
@Emikolaitis9 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy I'm just saying you're setup for it, it be a great thing in the future not necessarily right away. if you have the time we would love to see what your bolt ons and the aem yield then the itbs added on. though I realize that can be a hassle with shop time and dyno time.

dip it! cost 333 shipped off dip your car for everything you need. Can change colors whenever you want for $120 and 1 days of work. Here's mine. Decided to dip it after getting the downforce fenders like 6 months ago. love the look.. damn, it's not letting me post it here. I'll email you pics if you want
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+hellfire08 We may do the dip, would be a quick and easy way of sprucing up the color without needing to spend a lot of money on the job.

ITB-S SWEEEET. WOW its going to sound amazing! Really balanced build guys. 4.7 or 4.5 final???
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Rambito we're thinking 4.7
@Ramb1t09 жыл бұрын
YEAH!!! 4.7's Perfect for all motor. Maybe a slighly angled shifter extender bc with the 4.7's you will be shifting alot more. The extender will make your hand closer to the wheel it helps when transitioning from shifter to wheel. FYI With the S2K the extender has to be slightly angle to avoid hitting dash in 5th. The slight angle also help with leverage.
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Never seen a shifter extender in a S2k before. Got any pics or links? Curious to see what it's all about.
@Ramb1t09 жыл бұрын
This will do the trick www.ebay.com/itm/Curved-Stainless-10x1-5-Shifter-Shift-Knob-Extension-3-5-inches-extender-honda-/281260295271 if you find a billet one even better.
@Ramb1t09 жыл бұрын
Speed Academy Have you ever thought about doing some hood and fender louvers to release high pressure areas in fender and hood; you can even do the rear bumper by cutting bumper and add in some mesh squares. This will increase overall down force. Doing this will even get you a couples+ miles an hour on the back straight bc a lots of air gets trapped in these high pressure areas and creates lift.
@arturoperez50159 жыл бұрын

We've both owned 1g DSMs and love them. Not sure if we're likely to build another any time soon, though. Pete has a Evo VIII that'll be our 4G63T machine for a while. Dave's been having 2g Eclipse fantasies lately, so you know never know...

@infusedj94989 жыл бұрын
Just curious, what do you with a car when you are finished a project?
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+InfuseDJ we're good at buying cars, but not so good at selling them. We'd like to keep them all and probably will keep the S2k for a very long time. That said, if a project runs its course and we have no more space for it, we generally part it out and sell the car stock. It's hard to sell a modified car for what it's worth around here.
@tadficuscactus9 жыл бұрын
the current colour is good, I would stick with that.

are you guys going to make the BadasS2000 on a separate playlist?

I don't know if you have discussed this on your website or on KZbin, but can you share your experience or compare s2000 against the frs. If you pick which car you choose as a dedicated track car, which one would you guys pick?

One word - AWESOME2000. Really great build, guys. To sad there is no more new episodes Russian version of your show, our community liked a lot the Gt86Targa New Newfoundland build. But for my taste S2K build is more enjoyable to watch How-to build a street class track weapon. sorry mcm but, Canada>Australia.

Well - The smartes thing would be to wrap it. Probably cheaper than getting it painted profesionally, and you dont have to be as careful with the wrap, since you can just re-do it. And as handy as you guys are, you can probably wrap the S2000 yourselves :)
@speedacademy9 жыл бұрын
+Doggepp wrapping it ourselves would be a fun challenge. We'll give it some thought!
@Doggepp9 жыл бұрын
Speed Academy Yeah I thought so! Fun for us to watch, and we can use it as a guide as well - The S200 doesnt seem like a too difficult of a car to wrap. And you can keep the carbon roof unwrapped.
