i totally agree with the “learn like a child “style. i’m Japanese, born and raised in Japan, but went to US local school from 6to8years old. first at kindergarten, i remember learning the sounds of alphabets by songs and picture books, and that was fun! now i’m 43 years old and i don’t speak english as good as i used to, but i can still pronounce english words well like native speakers. i think having fun with the sounds and rhythms of english is the best way to improve the language.

Hi Rachel!! Great lesson!! Thank you for these invaluable tips. I like the brainwashing tip, but is a little hard to do it. I think this is part of my problem. My native language is Spanish. I'm improving my pronunciation thanks to you, But, my brain sets me up and tries to translade the sounds in Spanish to the words in English. I think my brain and my tongue are very well trained with Spanish language. I'm working hard, so the results are coming. I'm working hard to get the results. Thanks again.

Something made me smile is how you pronounce "holidays", this so basic word, it sounds like "all days" a bit to me and at the french school during English lessons we pronounced it "ho-li-days" with no stress for the three syllables. Imagine how we studied your language here and why it is hard to pronounce it and sometimes hard to understand it. :-) Thank you!

Thanks for this useful lesson, Rachel. I'm Chinese. The big problem I have is that I can't get the rhythm of English sentences. I just say them in a pretty plain way. It really frustrates me a lot. When I mimic the native speaker, I feel good. But when I say it on my own, I get back to plain again. In addition, I can understand you and other native speakers most of the time, but I can't speak fluently in daily talk. Hope to get useful tips from you. Thanks a lot.

I don't know .... as a non-native English speaker, sometimes it seems to me that the most important thing is having something important to say, you know, like a kind of strong willingness to send a message and engage in fruitful conversations. I do believe that if that desire is burning inside someone, that person will most prabably find a way to get the message across in a way that the listener can understand. And of course, practice makes perfect and amazing guidance from people like Rachel does help a lot.
