This worked. I ordered the Locktite mastic for the speaker cones in my old Mercedes where the foam had broken. I was light handed when applying the glue, it repaired them eliminating the rattles. all six speakers were examined and repaired with glue where necessary. I was able to bridge some holes where necessary. The sound is fresh, base is accurate, and performance is what I once remember it being.

Tried your suggestion and had good results! For reference, I used paper towel cloth. My small speaker was ripped all the way round the outside perimeter, so used small pieces of cloth to patch with the Lock Tite Fabric glue. Cheerz

This worked for a car speaker I punctured in a couple of places because I misaligned the door card. I used shoe glue and toilet paper. The glue is holding fine and no noises! Thank you!

A good way to also do this is use a paint brush and get a can of flex seal. Brush on a couple of thin coats and itll work great on rubber and foam surrounds 👍

I don't deal with rubber surrounds much but I'll have to give that a shot!

my brother has a set of pioneer floorstanding speakers, and they fell over during the Northridge earthquake, one of the cones was punctured. I repaired it with shoe goo and It's still holding today AFAIK.

100% silicone (whatever brand) works well for this too if you have a repair that is rubber to rubber
@wado19424 жыл бұрын
Quick addendum; I forgot to mention that probably the best material to use to repair speakers is cigarette rolling papers. It's thin, flexible and easy to cut/handle.
@nros50203 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. Do you think gift wrapping tissue paper would work as well? It seems a little thicker.
@wado19423 жыл бұрын
@@nros5020 I don't see why not but the thicker the paper, the more it will influence the sound.

Hi!I have made several exchanges of speakers in guitar cabinets but today i was in a hurry and punctured a hole on the side foam...I tried your fix with shoe glue and i hope it works..How can i know if it did?What do you expect if its not ok??Rattle?Thanks a lot!!

You can expect a faint buzz if it doesn't work but more importantly, the tear will spread.

I am able to stick the punctured cloth together..lucky...but glue it with reinforced tape that I use for r.c bodies..why not just but spare speaker surround for pennies and cut it to piece to cover the damage?

I want to buy a speaker which has a fingernail deep notch in the rubber sorrounding. Will it affect the speaker negatively or can more problems occure ? Thanks in advance!
@wado19422 жыл бұрын
Tears in speakers tend to buzz and spread with time. If you buy it, assume you'll have to repair it.
@MrRizoable2 жыл бұрын
@@wado1942 It is not cut through, just a finger nail deep dent. Would it be the same case? I really don't want to exchange the whole thing.
@wado19422 жыл бұрын
@@MrRizoable If it isn't actually punctured, it's probably fine at least for the time being. It might eventually tear or not.

@@wado1942 Since it is a potential risk, I won't put the trigger. I am talking about a WGS Black Hawk 50 Watt for around 140$ which would be a great deal actually. The dent is pretty tiny but you never know. Thanks for your help!! Best regards from Germany

I'm just getting into small repairs like this on my speakers since my speaker guy has turned jackass on me, always been actually but he can no longer hide it. I know he never used paper or patches on small tears so I am wondering why so many people think it's necessary?
@wado19423 жыл бұрын
I don't know but when left unattended, a tear can spread.
@xXJAY97Xx9 ай бұрын
i just used super glue, whats the benefit of reinforcing with tissue?
@wado19429 ай бұрын
Super glue is not flexible, hence the rubber cement. The reinforcement is for better strength, keeps it from ripping when you push the speaker harder.

Question - any way I could use a slime pre adhesive bike tire patch? I have these nice old phillips speakers, and one of the small speaker tweeters has a very small rip.
@wado19425 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure. If it dries solid but flexible, it's worth a try. Maybe test some on a piece of paper to see how it acts there first.
