@@livedandletdie I'd say that is highly individual, or this is at least what I'd day from personal experience. Some people seem to have a knack at easily wiping any traces of an accent, for others it takes time, and for some there will still be remnant of an accent regardless of how much they try to pronounce words in a "native way". My French teacher for example, she speaks English, French, Italian and Norwegian (Italian is from her parents). She has a quite prominent accent when speaking both norwegian and French, but she's fluent I both and have lived in norway for 20+ years. Saying that "oh its because she's lazy" because she still has an accent after using the language daily for over two decades seems like an odd claim, but if you'd like to elaborate in any way, please go ahead. (to clarify, I'm not trying to be snarky. I'm just genuinely curious if you have any thoughts/input on this)

I remember the day I "got" a joke in another language. I'm a native English speaker. I've been trying to learn French (off and on) for about 20 years now. I was once conversational, but I had nobody to speak with and I've lost a lot of it. Planning on a concerted effort in 2020. The joke was awful. It was a French "dad joke". But I laughed like a nut case even though it was awful and I should have groaned, simply because I "got" it. Humour is very cultural and can be very specific, so I was totally not expecting to "get" the joke. As for telling jokes in another language ... oooooh boy. Not even going to attempt that one. Multi-lingual comedians have my absolute respect.

That's a huge problem in many countries. If teenagers and even some teachers were not so judgmental we would all speak at least one more language than our own. I noticed that the reason why I find so hard even today to improve my english level at speaking, when I am obviously able to create sentences when I am writing, is because of that terrible experience of english class with the whole crowd laughin at me when I was trying to pronunce things correctly. Today I feel ashamed before even trying to speak. I do it anyway but I feel bad and I don't know if that feeling ever goes away.

I've found that this happens to me when I write long essays for school. I start thinking more about the concept I'm writing about and not the individual words and accidentally put "their" instead of "there", "whose" instead of "who's", "were" instead of "where". I'd give people a break, it can get tiresome sometimes. It doesn't mean they don't know their grammar, it just happens.

Marier quelqu'un n'est pas "une faute de base". C'est une erreur très courante, par rapport au genre du croissant ou de la baguette. Qui se trompe sur le genre de mots courants ? Par contre les erreurs grammaticales qui passent pour des expressions correctes sont légion. French education in the Netherlands (where I'm from) is terrible, so as an adult (living in Brussels) I did everything I could to learn to improve my French. I don't want to sound mean or harsh, but a lot of people here act as if their high school language classes are their only chance at learning the other national language, and if you can't speak it by the time you graduate, then it will never happen. The truth is that most of the learning takes place outside of the classroom.

On a perdu ce sens-là au fil du temps, et aujourd'hui il est utilisé pour désigner quelqu'un de stupide ^^ (il peut avoir un autre sens dans le sud de la France à Toulouse qui est plutôt amical) "Tu" is ok x) The word "con" is a bad word from old French and it originally designates woman's sex. I'm laughing so hard. I'm American, but a musician. I can sing in almost any language I've been taught during school; I sucked when having to learn to speak French. Out of my IPA required languages for vocal diction (the other two being Italian and German), I was absolute trash. My first second language was Spanish and I learned in high school. My classes were longer, my teachers were firm- albeit loving- and my conjugation was on point. I was also younger, live in a city with Mexican town if I wanted to practice, and actually used it conversationally for a few years. With music, I typically learn the rules of the language and in choir we also spell things phonetically if needed, so it's a lot easier to sing and almost *ALMOST* nail the accent if an expert came in and adjusted our vowel placement. This? What he's doing on stage right now? Not only is it funny, but it's genius in a simple way. Language connects us and brings individuals together, but it can also tell an amazing story. I was immersed in his skit and could envision these scenarios based on my past experiences. Don't ask me to speak French to you, though. I'd piss you (and apparently my mother's side of the family who *all* studied French for some reason) off.
