The science of prevention has progressed a lot in the past
years. Many interventions are being tested in environments
of real life so that they can be more easily adapted to the use
community Scientists are studying a greater range of
populations and issues. For example, they have identified interventions
effective with younger populations to help prevent
risk behaviors before drug abuse occurs. The
researchers are also studying older teenagers
who are already using drugs to find ways to prevent
more abuse or addiction. Issues are also being studied
practical, such as the analysis of costs in relation to benefits.
The presentation of these findings to the public constitutes one of the
