Excellent video. I'm puertorican but didn't start learning the language until recently, and it's been very helpful to learn pronunciation on your channel. Thanks very much

Let's be honest, Puerto Rican (and Dominican!) Spanish is the coolest sounding Spanish there is. Man, I wish I was Puerto Rican! You guys are so cool 😭😭😭 I'm so happy I was able to understand this video (Even though my Spanish isn't great 🫤). I struggle a lot with confidence with my Spanish but I'm gonna work harder. Thank you for making these types of videos!!! Ps. Cristi sounds just like me. Yo también soy muy tímida 🤣🤣🤣

Yes! No 2 people speak the same language exactly the same way. My sister and I grew up in the same household and have different word choices and even pronunciations of words in some cases. The way an individual speaks the language is called idiolect. Individuals don't even (necessarily) have the same idiolect as their former selves (think 5-10 years before). I love these little nuances of language, but lo más importante es que nos entendamos unos a los otros. ¡Pa'lante! 🇵🇷🇯🇲

100% same with me and my sister! Thanks so much for your comment! Great point about our individuals selves. Never thought of that!

I work around a lot of Latinos and at first it all sounded alike to me. When I really started paying attention I could hear the difference between the Mexicans and the Puerto Ricans. However, I still don't have the ear to separate the Dominicans from the Puerto Ricans. I really like all the Spanish dialects, so it's hard for me to pick one.

The "...que ella quizá(se)..." was like like one word.

I didn’t realize that there would be hardly any differences between Dominican and PuertoRican Spanish or even any other Caribbean Spanish. My wife is Dominican but I have not learned Dominican Spanish. She speaks English all the time.

15:37 Just wanted to add that I hear a ton of people from PR say "so" (instead of "así que" for example). I also hear Boricuas say "by the way" (instead of "a propósito" for example). Haven't really heard anyone else do that, but maybe they do in DR too. 10:42 Also, "pana" is a colloquial way of saying friend. I actually only thought this was a Caribbean thing but apparently, they say it some other countries too. (last two sentences from Boricua Dialecto web page)
@SpeakSpanishFaster2 ай бұрын
lol yeah we always say "By The Way" it's funny. That's mostly PR. DR they don't speak good enough English for that lol

@5:30 It’s impossible for someone to be “Half Dominican”. Dominican and even Puerto Rican is NOT a race but only by simply being born there, like the same with American, Jamaican, Cuban, Canadian, ect.
@SpeakSpanishFaster2 ай бұрын
Thanks for chiming in! You're right about race. When I say my cousin's 'half Dominican, half Puerto Rican,' I'm not talking about race, but about their ethnic and cultural background. Their mom is from Puerto Rico and their dad from the Dominican Republic, so they identify with both cultures. They're technically American by nationality since they were born here, but it's about that mix of cultural heritage and where their family roots are. That's a big deal for a lot of people, and there's nothing wrong with repping both sides. So while Dominican/Puerto Rican isn't a race, it's an important part of their identity and cultural background.
@ryancrnkovich-nb1wc2 ай бұрын
It is so easy how discussions can just go off topic so quickly. I'm not exactly sure what point he was trying to make. Race, ethnic and cultural backgrounds are not the same thing. These are discussions best suited for a different channel.
@BurnerBoy-mw7tx2 ай бұрын
You just had to be a smart Alec huh. It’s obvious referring too someone who’s of mixed ethnic background traced back to those places via parents,grandparents ect.
