In this video i'm diving the West Coast of Scotland whilst on a trip with one of my best mates, we were targeting King Scallops and we got them!
Waking up to a perfect fresh morning, walking no further than 20 meters from where we had camped and entering the water. I took my Speargun in with me incase i came across a nice flatfish but really i was here for one thing. The famous Scottish King Scallop.
These guys were in a massive abundance being found in water as shallow as 3 meters. I collected what i needed to ensure myself and Victor were well fed.I also collected two sea urchins/kina for a yummy raw snack post dive. I found a broken Stanley blade too which of course belonged in the bin not the ocean.
The Scallops were enjoyed raw and cooked. Victor was abit cautious about eating one raw with me but he was instantly converted on consumption.
With the others we tried to grill but sadly it malfunctioned so we cooked them in their shells on the stove. My Nan had given me some of her famous Raspberry Jam for the trip and i knew the combo would be out of this world.
Big shout out to the Highland Spearo for some tips and my Nan for the epic Jam
All Scallops were of legal size and were taken for consumption, I abide by catch, size limits, daily takes and no fish zones. Over the past 4 years now I have made the commitment to no longer buy fish so I only eat the fish catch. Spearfishing is the most sustainable form of fishing on the planet, it is also the most environmentally friendly form of fishing.
Let me know what you think of the video in the comments section. Anyway I hope you guys enjoyed the video and don’t be afraid to like, share and subscribe for more Spearfishing!

Cheers for the shout out mate. Glad you enjoyed them. Good tip for the urchin's is a pair of pliers. Stab them in the mouth then open them. Usually splits it perfectly in two 🤙🏻

Wow! I would love to free dive for scallops one day. They taste amazing! In fact I’m heading to Scotland in October hopefully so might have to give it a go. How deep do you normally find them? I’ve hardly done any diving before so a little scared of diving deep currently! Nice video!

I had a 5mm but it had its 10th birthday not to long back, my hood leaks so my head got cold + diving with 1.5mm socks and 1.5mm gloves with holes. My dive gear is equipped for Aussie waters combined with the fact im now pretty used to diving in 20+ degree water i felt it

@@thegoat4033 Sorry man I can't give away the location it would be seen by thousands of people interested in going to the same spot and then there wouldn't be any left. But honestly jump in the water on the west coast and dive and you'll find plenty they are prolific in most bays

What you're eating from the Sea Urchin are basicly milt and roe, which means sperm and eggs. I would be scared to eat that scallop raw to be honest, they could have parasites. But cooked - they look absolutely fantastic. I even begun drooling, haha.
@WetMammal
@WetMammal 3 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed but they are delicious, as for parasites its important to assess the risk based on the local reports of parasites and what have you. Then enjoy at your own risk :)
