Incredible episode! It was a real treat to see the bottom of the somewhat local waters that I fish. It’s fun to hear your take on the dive and the fish. I also lived in FL for a time and spearfished often so the comparisons were spot on. You had a great weather day out there, water clarity can get pretty bad and like you experienced the currents are no joke so there aren’t many spearos up here. Those were jumbo seabass for the depth you were at, thought you would think they taste like hogfish. Stripers are very bloody they get a bad rap as table fare bc of the drama surrounding them I think. Oh and that was a cow nose ray

This is now one of my personal favorite episodes with NY being my native port. Now Will knows dam well no one has ever confused striper for Tilefish lol. Sea bass is one of my personal favorites and I made a trip up earlier this summer to stack the freezer with some. The blackfish are also fantastic on the dinner table. You can get the black seabsss as far south as central Florida but they aren’t as big as up north. Again bleeding that striper left it with the whitest meat I’ve seen on striper before. I’m not a fan of the meat but maybe if it’s bled properly I’d change my mind. Keep up the great videos.

@@KeyWestWaterman Thanks for the reply. There is good value and truths in your videos. I've been watching all of your vids. I love your content. Down to earth and lots of good info. Keep up the good work. Try to enjoy it as much as you can trying to maintain that importance balance. I see how sometimes content creators struggle with trying to post and also live their lives. It is challenging. As for me I am in Miami and my husband and I like to explore the keys whenever we get a chance. I am new at freediving, as you can imagine a work in progress. Also, I would like to spear fish but may be in the future. I think I should become a better freediver first. I love the water and I love the ocean. The water and reefs are great over there🤩I have one question, if you can. Have you ever taken classes? freediving or spear fishing? I don't remember if you had mentioned in your videos?

It is always thrilling for a hit on a new species. In the Canal Zone the 2 oceans were only 50 miles apart. We dove both in the same day, every now and then. It could be done. But there were species that were different in each but alot of common as well. The lobsters were red on the atlantic, green on the pacific. Pacific side was not a true tropical ocean, even though it was only 15 deg off the equator. During dry season water could get into the 60's. Cold!. Peruvian current would come up and turn that water cold. It got so cold one year, we were filling buckets and ice chests with lobster and shrimp. Lobster were literally just under the water with their feelers above the surface, alive but stunned. Pacific Black Snook got big to. Largest I saw speared was 64lbs. Big dude. Enjoyed this one. Always exciting. Well done.

Thank you so much for doing the no seasoning taste test on those two pieces of excellent fish. that is exactly what I like to do so that I know what a new species really taste like. I have yelled more than once at Victor on LandShark outdoors. He will catch what he calls a trash fish and then covers it with tons of blackening seasoning and all types of extra sauce. Burries it and flavors and then stuffs in a taco. Then says how good it is. i’ve commented twice on his videos telling him that you can put enough seasoning on a turd to make it taste good. He didn’t agree for some reason, ha.

So how did you feel about the way the fish react to you in the NY water vs the keys? Would you say the fish are easier going? There’s definitely less diving pressure but the viz is also different. I’m North Carolina idk if it’s because we could shoot both in the same spot so maybe they’re eating the same diet but I always thought black sea bass reminded me of hog fish . Even thought it’s a bas and a wrasse. I prefer the trigger eating wise.

Sorry for so many comments I just be leaving them as I watched the video. I only eat 1 stripers per year and I try to take one as close to 28 as possible because I actually like the smaller ones better. That being said the flesh is very flakey and it has a great taste. People seem to turn their nose up to striper but I think it’s a great fish to eat.
