Saying that UK went “back to the M4” isnt quite true… we have always stuck with the SA80, what happened in the first gulf war was that our troops were grabbing American M4s where they could because the first gen SA80 was a rushed out hot mess but we didnt formally adopt the M4, we stuck with our gun and since we got H&K to fix it, its become an excellent gun.

Just to add some more details to this, the A2 version is what is probably most commonly used at the moment. This was designed as a improvement in the early 2000s meant to improve the reliability of the weapon(upgrades completed by H&K). More recently the british armed forces have had the rollout of the A3 version which is primarily a modernisation upgrade, adding rails for a selection of sights, lasers, torches and grips, as well as weight reduction and a new tougher coating. As said the fixes from H&K have improved the gun a lot, but the name SA80 or L85 still are infamous, and it's hard to detach the weapons troubled past from it's modern capabilities.

Many people are unaware that the AUG trigger has some adjustability to it and can be tuned and when this is done it makes a big difference. Over time the screw the clamps the transfer bar to the trigger can loosen up allowing the transfer bar and trigger to come out of tune. But since nobody even knows that the thing is adjustable in the first place they also wouldn't think to check or fix it. TnSteyr has a tutorial about this which I highly recommend.

Also m16 a1 was not liked or well received by the troops back in Vietnam, it was nicknamed the Mattel rifle. Which just shows that next to no weapon system is made perfect right from the start & with updates & improvements can a weapon system be properly fit for purpose.

Australia compared the AR with the AUG and the AR lost out in all the tests the testing report was declassified a while ago it also didn't help that Australia went we want to make it in Australia having had bad experiences with depending on foreign suppliers. Colt went no and Styer went sure knock yourself out. So Australia adopted the weapon and Built it at the Lithgow (pronounced Lith-go) Arms Company as the F88 a licenced version of the AUG which went though several variants and is now being replaced with the F90 the F90 is a fully Australian Designed variant which includes a forward drop free mag release and the ability to use standard Stanag and NATO Magazines, an ambidextrous rear bolt release, fully configurable as a left or right handed weapon but comes with a case deflector as standard, a quick change free floating barrel assembly onto which your optic mounts meaning you don't loose zero, Improved heat management and It is lightest military Bullpup in the world at around 7.1 pounds

Went to NZ with the Australian Army reserve to train with your territorials and fired your version. I much preferred your optic to ours where we didnt have the crosshairs inside the donut. Cameron perfectly articulated the Steyr's limitations regards combat shooting. Quick mag changes are problematic, the weapon almost has to come out of the shoulder for most firer's meaning the weapon cannot stay on target for the process in adition to his observation on the hardness of the mag release to manipulate and locate by feel alone especially if you account for mitten hands and decrease in fine motor skill that sometimes accompany increased stress. I hope you get that musket you want. There's nothing quite like the click-BANG of a flintlock musket, and the weight/balance change you get by fixing a bayonet is pretty impressive. I'm curious what you would do for the "tactical reload" segment. In the late 18th/early 19th century, the British light infantry dealt with the slow loading times by pairing soldiers up into "files", and one file partner was to be loaded at all times. One partner would fire, then the other would level their musket and cover their partner while they loaded. Once done, the second would fire, and the first would cover them in turn. This led to a steady, accurate, and methodical fire, as opposed to loading and firing as fast as possible.

- Gets asked who actually uses the rifle - does not mention the actual country of origin, Austria, where it has been the standard service rifle for over 40 years

Izzy has pretty good grouping even when using the weak hand. Amazing 😮

The Brits didn't switch to the M4. They use an updated version of the SA80. But very interesting series!

It is also the standartrifel from the Austrian Armed Forces, it is an Austrian Product, with is build in Australia in a Licensversion. I am proud, to have this Rifle as my standartrifle by the Austrian Forces!

After watching demolition ranch for so long it’s almost weird to see people taking this much caution on the range. Not saying that Matt isn’t safe on his channel but this is a whole other level of safety.

Auto versions had a 3 way safety. Safe, Semi and Auto. As mentioned when in Auto the trigger has two pulls or detents. First is semi, all the way back is auto. We just referred to them as Steyrs, never really AUG in NZ (now use MARS L).

All this gun needs is a bolt hold open, a magazine release, and a bolt release and this thing would be perfect. Hell as it is it still seems modern.
@Freedm7622 жыл бұрын
The a3 got the bolt release, and it already got the mag release at the back Edit: right behind the mag
@weeznaz81952 жыл бұрын
@@Freedm762 I should have been more clear. A mag release that is more similar to the M16 or M4 family.

@@weeznaz8195 but why? the one that is there works perfectly fine. A lot of guff is spoken about the drop free magazines but unless you are in a competitive gun match, that is really irrelevant. If you are an actual soldier, you are issued with x number of magazines and expeted to come back with x number of magazines, and you want to keep them for reloading where possible and don't want them damaged or full of crap. You aren't dropping them on the ground all the time as you are going to retain them. You certainly aren't going to drop them for speed in the heat of battle and then walk around after the battle searching for your dropped mags.

As a civilian, I thoroughly enjoyed the knowledge and banter these guys bring. And well as the glimpses into the military lifestyle. Not to mention the humor they slip in. Quality content boys.

I love Cameron and Isarel Surprising that they didn't know what weapons they taste and try ❤️

That version of the A3, the one that accepts the proprietary waffle mags and not standard AR mags, actually does have a bolt release. The AR mag ones don't have a bolt release

I love how Cameron allways wants to hit bolt release when he inserts the magazine in xd
