@@CoolBird420 Burlesque focuses primarily on erotic strip tease dancing whereas cabaret is more like a variety show with singing, tap dancing, magic acts, juggling, and comedy skits, and might have racy costumes but little to no nudity. As someone who's been to a few burlesque shows, I think what kills this movie for me is how safe it plays. I've seen tits getting exposed (and no not in a hiding behind a fan way, like out and proud for the crowd to see) in actual shows, meanwhile Burlesque the movie feels tamer than whatever Madonna was doing in her prime. I highly doubt you could ever do burlesque performance justice with a pg-13 rating. Hell, maybe an R rating might still be a little restrained. Fucking go all out, make Showgirls 2 electric boogaloo.

I never even realized that Chicago rip off. The whole point of Roxie scene is to hint at the fact that it's all delusions in her head to begin with. So now I know that this entire movie is just a figment of Christina Aguilera's character's imagination.

They even rip off the ending song. It’s so clear that last song is supposed to be Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag. Surprised they didn’t try to do some version of Cell Block Tango considering that’s one of the most iconic songs from Chicago (also ones of the most fun to perform).

A famous critique of Whitney Houston's rendition of "I will always love you" was "All impression; no expression". This is everything Christina Aguilera has ever done. Also not a great singer, technically, but her voice was still dripping with naughtiness.

It's so weird for me because she's obviously a very good singer, but she's so damn forceful and melodramatic ALL THE TIME. I like her a lot, but I have the same problem with her singing that Todd has with Bruno Mars. She's technically gifted, but she needs to dial it down several notches and really learn how to restrain herself so that when she *does* belt, it's meaningful and appropriate. Also: stop with the damn runs. Just hold a single note longer than a second at a time, please. That goes for you too, Mariah. And Beyonce.

+Amanda S I feel like the only time Aguilera's music ever suited her forceful vocals was the "Back to Basics" album. I do like quite a few of her songs and I do like her voice in small doses, but her voice really is like a punch in the face when she over-sings. She does somewhat restrain herself in ballads. "Beautiful" is still a wonderful song, she shows genuine softness and restraint in songs like "You Lost Me", "Hurt", and "I'm OK".

+eating raw faces is my least favorite thing to do. That would be true if she could sing her higher belts live to begin with. In studio she doesn't force them that much, she actually uses a chest-dominant mix but for the most part it sounds OK (well, no so much in Lotus sadly). It is live when she goes all out trying to push too much chest and her belts sound really strained. She also sings high belts with a high larynx AT THE SAME TIME she's trying to push her larynx down to achieve a fuller, darker sound. So the amount of tension in her throat is tremendous. That's the reason why her voice is so damaged now, because she never learned how to belt properly outside the recording studio. Her studio belts in songs like The Voice Within, Mercy On Me, Soar, Fighter, Beautiful are EPIC, but she has never been able to sing them live. It's kinda crazy that she has never ever sang Beautiful the way she sang it in the studio (belted the G#5 in "E-verywhere" and the F#5 in "shIne").

Even then some of us would have cringed at that insult. That felt like something a person wouldn't really say past 2005 unless they were painted as a villain.

I am a fan of Christina Aguilera, and admittedly, I only watched this movie for the songs. The rest was cliche and weak.

Looking back at the "90s Teen Pop failures"... Mandy Moore is looking pretty great as an actress now. I always liked her, even in her cheesy early films, but now with an Emmy nomination....

I'm no Christina Aguilera or Cher fan, but I thought this film was okay. It's not great, but neither is it terrible. It's just a bit of kitsch fun. After all, not every work of art has to be a masterpiece.

I did a local musical production of Chicago and I can tell you that ending number is just a cheap repackaging of Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag from Chicago. I’m surprised they didn’t do a crappy knockoff of Cell Block Tango but I suppose that would be too obvious.

Sadly the songs has almost no uses in the movie scenes, they are well done absolutely but it sure feels empty in the movie context, also, why is she singing about *finally trusting a guy* in that green dress? She's not a skeptical character nor does she have a bad past with a guy either, it doesn't warrant a romantic song Plus with the movie showing how talented she is, why is she still in a Burlesque? The movie just feels like what a preteen imagine what working in a strip club is like

Love this movie, and I wasn’t even a Cher or Christina fan before seeing it. I get that it’s not for everyone, but I am very surprised it didn’t get more recommendation for it’s amazing cinematography (even if Bound to You did rip off Maybe This Time).

At least Mariah Carey knows Glitter, the film, was bad and distances herself from it. And even the soundtrack to that is better than Burlesque's with an actual #2 hit in 2001. Christina, on the other hand, 10 years on, still seems to think her film is the best thing that happened since sliced bread.
