Lose your M4 or M9/M11= Article 15, so I slept w/my weapons down range, except the grenades. Years after returning home from deployments, I would still have nightmares of losing my M4 or sidearm down range. Once downrange, I found a Colt 1911 pistol in a holster hanging on nail in a field latrine. Luckily, I found the owner, a Major, and saved him from an Art 15, which would have been a career killer.

I remember when I was in basic in Ft. leonardwood back in 1992 a drill sergeant took my rifle because i wasn't paying attention. this happened at night time during training out in the woods. I knew in the morning all of that had our rifles taken were gonna get smoked. I was terrified for some reason so in desperation I waited until 1or 2am to sneak in the sergeants tent to go to the pile of rifles that had been taken from dumbass privates like me. I was shit scared and could feel my heart thumping with every step I took. but i found my rifle and snuck back to my tent and fell asleep. the funny thing is I got busted for not securing my rifle but that is exactly how I got my rifle back. the drills didn't secure my rifle. tit for tat.

Imagine if the SF instructors put serials on the rifles without you knowing. Then your friend gets caught with the wrong rifle after finishing the land navigation. But after explaining to the instructors what he did and why. He still graduates for not giving up. But the blue falcon who fucked him gets caught and fails. That would've have been awesome and karma is a bitch. If I would've gone through selection, I would've put the rifle in my ruck while plotting. Smart like an operator.
