What's up everyone?! In this video, I give you 3 benchmarks that will help ensure you are on the right track for SFAS. These benchmarks are common in SFAS and the Qualification course. If you are far from hitting these physical goals, now you have some things to work towards.

I went in Nov ‘07 to the first 14 day Selection when they were trying that super idea out. Felt like someone kicked me in the junk and left their foot there! I was surprised when the CDR of JFKSWC told us during in processing “you WILL eat 3 meals (MRE’s) a day, no exceptions. We are not Ranger school, we’re not here to starve you, we are here to assess you”.

For the guard guys, or really anyone looking for a real-world baseline, the guard SFGs run SF evaluations every month or two months (at least the 20th does). I know event information gets posted on Instagram, and I think it's a good option for anyone looking to test the waters with people of different fitness levels in what I'd imagine is a more SFAS-type setting - plus top performers get swag and bragging rights. Also, another thumbs up for 18 Alpha fitness, Kevin has some great programs and does well quickly answering any and all of your stupid questions (I know he's been great with mine!)

I thought I had a pulled a muscle in my back. After a week of pain i finally went to the Medic. I was diagnosed with a fracture and additional damage. Another great video Buck! You’re a great inspiration and good teacher. Attributes well suited for a Green Beret. Advice for 18X guys, remember to be mindful of your training. Be gradual with the weight and distance or else you risk wear and tear and nasty injuries to your feet/lower body. Otherwise, stay hard.

The running is the hardest thing for me, 7:30 miles for 7 sounds insane. I currently run a 5 mile at 45 minutes. I just enlisted, and ship in about 2 weeks, as infantry, with an airborne contract. My goal is SF, in about a year and a half, to two years. I don't run often, so this current max isn't the best I can do.

@@froz3nskulltv360 I never usually do a timed 2-mile. I usually only do timed miles, mile and a halfs, and 5-miles. I don’t even remember the last time I timed a 2-mile run. But I usually get a 9:00 mile and a half. So by those metrics, I’d say I can do a 12:00 2-mile. I really don’t know how I got a sub 30-minute 5 mile, because I usually get 30:35 for my 5 miles.

2hr 30 min is the bear minimum. Most guys can do it in 2:15 or less. Good rule of thumb on the 12 miler is to come in with enough time to go at least 1 more mile if needed. I always walk up hill, run down hill, and alternate jogging and walking on the flats. Some guys can run the whole thing.

@psykrobone9479
@psykrobone9479 3 жыл бұрын
I would say likely not airborne and air assault. Ranger school would set you straight for selection. Obviously prepare for selection but my guess is if you attended Ranger school and got your tab you would be likely ahead of 80% of the class. (Pulled that number out of my head-I’m not sure the statistics, I’m sure it may be published somewhere. “Percentage of graduates that attended SFAS with a tab”) Airborne and air assault don’t really prepare you for any selection. You should however prepare for those schools. You will have graded runs in airborne and you will have the same in air assault with a graded 12 mile ruck to standard.
@blazegulizack

Airborne is a joke physically. The fastest run is at a 9 min pace for 5 miles. Ranger school is not necessary! You're going to have to prep just as hard to complete ranger school as selection. Just go to sfas man!

I would say definitely sign up for 18 Alpha Fitness. I am doing his SFAS programming now and it’s the best training program out there. I’ve done quite a few including SOFLETE and other random SFAS programs you can find on the internet. Kevin’s program on 18A has all of it and then some to keep you moving and hitting milestones. It’s all focused on getting you slowly better at stuff you will encounter. So far, your doing good man. Keep up your training and don’t quit. I started training for this a year ago in April when I just turned 28 and I was doing much worse (especially the running) than you were. Lol It takes time, but believe me you will get there if you keep at it.

Have you known any prior service guys who came back in with an 18x make it? I was an 11b and got out in 2019, got my degree with high honors and have been excelling in civilian life. Great job, full time, girlfriend, etc. Problem is that I don’t feel fulfilled and want to come back in and shoot for SOF like I should’ve done my first time around.

Would you recommend going an easier army mos, or to sign a 18x contract right out of highschool. My recruiter said it would be better to not have bad habits and go straight to selection.
@thelmadickinson6811
@thelmadickinson6811 Жыл бұрын
You can’t sign an 18x right out of high school. Minimum age is 20. Very few guys that young get selected. Some do but not many. You need good study habits, know how to make and present a power point presentation, etc.

Hey Sean, Should we be hitting these same standards discussed in the video before talking to a recruiter and signing up ? Or is it by the time we get our selection date and have already been through Basic all the way to SOPC that we should be doing those things comfortably? How much would you say you improve physically on the PT tests from going through Basic, AIT, Airborne and SOPC? My PFT score is 236 (61 PU, 62 SU, 15:12 2 Mile), would it be realistic to think that i could max that out by the time i get to selection ?

Anthony if you can comfortably get a 240 enlist. By the end of OSUT you should be 280+ by the end of PC you will be flirting with 300 if not there. It’s on you though. Motivation means nothing without self discipline. You can do it if you want it bad enough.

Maybe a stupid question, but is it a very different skill to ruck march vs run? As in, I would guess that the fastest runners would also be the best ruck-marchers.

@blazegulizack
@blazegulizack Жыл бұрын
Focus on zone 2 slow easy runs for the bulk of your weekly mileage. That will help your endurance for longer runs. The add some sprints 2x a week and that will improve your 2 mile time If you can run a 7min mile for 2. Then you shouldn't have a problem running a 5 mile under 40.

5/19th runs SFRE but not every ARNG SF unit runs a pre selection as far as I know so this video will be useful. Agree 240 isn’t cutting it. I ran the 2 mile in 12:30 We did a 20 mile ruck at my unit we had an APFT the following morning, I barely passed 😬 CSM was p.......d

Hey man I run a good amount and I think if you practice running a sub 6:30-6 min mile then after you can run that without a problem then you try your 2 miles again and remember to pace yourself. YOU GOT THIS 👊
