Great job to minister Miller. It was getting out of control and being abused by various actors.
@frankfanning634111 ай бұрын
My colleagues and I believe we heard this week from Miller: For higher populated provinces like Ontario a two year 50% cap is being launched effecting Sept 2024 semester+. Less populated provinces, 35%. However certain students are cap-exempt, i.e. physicians, nurses, skilled trade workers. International students will need to attach a "provincial attestation" to their study permit. Meaning the student must legally verify (via Canadian standards) that ALL of their necessary documents are indeed authentic. Including showing they have $21,000 in savings (after their tuition for a year is paid plus roundtrip travel costs). Elements of monthly bank records will need to be shown (if asked for) proving the money is indeed THEIRS plus THEY are using it to pay for things they need from WITHIN Canada. No fraud. No work permit for spouses. Unless the student is exempt, i.e. a physician. Hence eliminating all the fake marriages. Student's work permit expires upon graduation. Unless they qualify for exemptions. Caps/restrictions/strict-authentications. PRIVATE colleges investigated (foreign interference). Cda schools are no longer to be used for people solely wanting PR or, even worse, plan on staying in Cda illegally if disqualified. No more foreign agents, aka smugglers, cashing in too.

Fraser said today the Alberta would be a WINNER in this cap as they would get more quota for international students than they currently have. Good news for us here in Alberta.

My prediction is that this was the Canada’s first step towards anti immigration policy and it will only get much stronger when the current governemt gets changed.
@joeli475411 ай бұрын
Anti immigration? Really? Are countries supposed to be “pro immigration” to begin with? It’s not like people can’t immigrate here any more after this. Maybe we are just going back to normal and we are not “anti” anything. Having 90% of a country’s labor growth purely from immigration simply isn’t normal at all. Canada welcomes 3 times more immigrants per capital than the US - do you think that’s normal given the economic strength of Canada vs. the US? Anyone in Canada will tell you the terrible experience of increased cost of living in recent years due to uncontrolled immigration. We are just going back to controlling it, and it’s long overdue

The policies still allow a large volume of immigration and Canada needs immigration. The state allowed immigration without trying to really prioritize certain skills, diversification, certain skills, etc. for a long time. We need more targeted immigration not just opening up to anyone. Being very liberal with policies has allowed bad actors to run wild. IRCC needs to target people paying for WP as well. The fact that we also allow parent and grandparent immigration and now many people who haven’t qualified have overwhelmed the H&C system needs to be examined. Increasing stay on a supervisa for 5-7 years also needs to be examined. Most will have no plans on ever returning. Even on a supervisa these large number of seniors use healthcare resources. With the volume of immigration and state of our healthcare we should really be saying nobody can sponsor their parents versus the current system with PGP, large volume of parents “visiting” Canada soon after their child get PR, many applying for H&C, etc. Canada will not be able to absorb all these extra seniors so would be better to be upfront with people and say that parent sponsorship will not be an option so that should be a consideration when people decide whether they want to immigrate. Other issues include applying for WP within Canada for visitors. This has created a way for so many people to come to Canada and many getting jobs although there are already unemployed people in Canada. A 40 year old visiting their brother was able to get a WP to work at Tim Horton’s in the GTA while international students were lining up by the hundreds for similar job postings.

@amyseaden906911 ай бұрын
Likely yes. You may not longer qualify. If you wanted to join your spouse you should have included your application with your spouse. SOWP was never guaranteed even before this announcement.

@@amyseaden9069Is it good to go or should I drop my application?
@amyseaden906911 ай бұрын
@@rahulmani9459 we don’t know when SOWP will start being denied. You should apply now and hope for the best. You and your spouse need to be prepared to be denied of potentially accepted. Processing can often take close to 6 months. If your wife does not want to continue studying if you and your child can not join her in Canada you should discuss whether you want to apply or not because there is a good chance that SOWP will be denied. SOWP was never guaranteed which is why spouses who want their families to join them in Canada should apply together.

How will you apply for a program in May 2024? You can’t even start applying until you get a provincial attestation and second degree acceptance may be much more difficult than before
