I noticed he sits a little bit differently with each person.😊 Not better or worse. Just different. His caregiver - He looks at her the most. His eyes stay fixed on her. Probably wondering what next big adventure they'll be going on! His mom - More verbal, I guess you could say. Makes noises. Moves around a lot more than with the others. His dad - He sits still and quiet. Moves around but he's quieter. His sister - A little bit of everything. Looked at her but didn't fix his eyes on her, like the caregiver. Anyway, I just thought it was cool. He communicated in his own special way with each one. I love that his sister now works in special education. She carries on what she learned from Bret. That's amazing!😊 I love this family, and Bret's caregiver. Very warm people.❤

I have fond memories of every one of those kids (even Aletha, who socked me in the face and gave me a nosebleed in the HS swimming pool!) and think of them often. Wow. When she said “he was the perfect child”. That is exactly how I was described as a baby. It was my grandmother that pointed out to my young parents that there was something wrong with me because I never cried and never wanted for anything like a normal baby. Instead of listening to her they took offense and I was not diagnosed with anything until adulthood. Needless to say growing up was really hard for me I was bullied by not only other children but worst for me was teachers who at the time had no sympathy or skills to deal with my unique issues. Home life was dysfunctional and violent with substance abuse. And I had autism, poor eyesight and was mostly non-verbal but no one seemed to notice or care. I was on my own. The world is not easy on anybody but disabled people have it extra hard if there is no help.

The dad is so right. So many family's struggling on their own and need serious help. The access to those resources to caregivers and doctors and what not is so needed. I hope for a better world and that more people can have a family like Brett's. They seems so wonderful and so does the caregiver

That’s incredible that he goes the bathroom it’s an amazing routine and very very hard to achieve with severe non verbal , mostly because you need caregivers who are patient and willing to commit to getting there. Amazing family .Remarkable . ❤

Bret reminds me of my uncle Raul, he had meningitis disease when he was very young, and was left with after-effects, he had less mobility, although he walked he did so with difficulty, mentally he was like a small child, he knew how to say a few words, like the names of 2 of his 6 siblings, mom and dad. When I say that he reminds me it is in terms of certain very similar gestures, in addition to the fact that he ground his teeth in the same way, and he crossed his legs and held his hands in the same way, he also had convulsions. My grandmother took care of him until the day of his death, he was, I don't remember, I think he was 43 years old, and she took care of the last 18 years alone since she was widowed. Greetings from Argentina

We need more caregivers like this one!! I’m a retired RN and I’ve seen good care and sometimes not-so-good care. These caregivers deserve much more money than they are paid and they deserve our respect!

Bret’s caregiver always arrives early, with a smile and cheerful attitude. I’ve never seen her in a bad mood. I’ve heard that some people are born with a “servants heart”, and that would certainly be true here. She really loves Bret, and we have learned so much from her.

I Live in louisiana did an interview for a family with a daughter who has these exact symptoms!!! the feeding tube situation, the seizures, the fact that they are both physically disabled and nonverbal. Im absolutely blown away that i have came across another person with symptoms that relate to hers on tbe internet. the family has been searching for a diagnosis her whole life, shes in her 40s. I wish i could get these families to contact eachother and maybe help eachother. im absolutely blown away right now about this and will be sending them the link to this video!

I am a 24/7 caregiver for my grandma that has dementia. It is sooo tough but also have such a hard time trusting anyone else. Going to try a day care but respite (at least her going somewhere else) is not really an option because it’s more disruptive to the routine than worth the “break” it would give. I am envious of the community they have! Friends even that check in, amazing! So many family even have left since my grandma was diagnosed and of course more so as she has progressed with it. Hugs and happiness for this family and their caregiver! 🤗

I am my mom's full time caregiver for 13 years. She has dementia. It is literal self sacrifice when you have no help from family. My mom gives any home help a really hard time. It is a very isolating life for me but I love her. There's so much I could say... This families support is awesome.
