Trek. On my second one but if I hadn’t went for it it would have been the venge. Let’s face it either bike and you are a winner. My madone is 7.8kg. Lighter tires, inner tubes and only 5g bottle cages. The madone would have been lighter on the smaller frame.

Hi mate, a quick go through through the Trek range from a Emonda SLR owner, hope that it will help you a little bit: frame material: - AL/ALR -> Aluminum frame - SL -> Carbon, OCLV 500 layup, similar to fact9/10r: same stiffness but heavier - SLR -> Carbon, OCLV 800, older models with 600/700, highest grade layup, similar to S-Works meaning of the number behind the frame type (like Émonda SLR *9*): 2 -> Claris 3 -> Sora 4 -> Tiagra 5 -> 105 6 -> Ultegra mech. 7 -> Ultegra Di2/Force eTap AXS 8 -> Dura-Ace mech. 9 -> Dura-Ace Di2/Red eTap AXS note: al/alr: 2-5 (idk the details there, sorry) sl: 4/5/6-7 (only the domane has the 4; madone sl has only 6 and 7) slr: 6-9 the domane & emonda have a sl6 „pro“ tier which comes with lowest grade carbon wheels (details under „wheels“) (fun fact: there was a 10 in 2015-16: only in the emonda range as a 4.8 kg hyperbike but they ditched it.) Wheels: Aeolus xxx: equivalent of the roval clx, top tier Aeolus RSL: equivalent of the roval alpinist clx, new 37mm wheel, was presented with the 2021 emonda Aeolus Pro: equivalent of CL‘s, but wheels have a heavier carbon layup Aeolus Comp: similar to Pro, but worse Paradigm: Alloy Wheelset Afftinity: Alloy Wheelset, worse than Paradigm hope this helps :)

Nice comparison. I m a big fan of Trek and Specialized 😉. I have owned the Venge S-works and did like it a lot. I didnt find it too harsh to ride and definitely a very fast bike. But I did set it up tubeless with 25mm GP5000. I havent tried a Trek Madone yet 🤔. Project one from Trek is a huge plus for me 👌. Their paintjobs are just the best you can get.

@yonglingng5640

I've ridden both and these are my post-build first spin verdicts: Specialized Venge (2019 Venge Pro, FACT 11r): Direct bike feedback, harsher than a regular carbon road bike (like the Tarmac SL6), quick to accelerate (thanks to the Roval CL 50 Discs). Trek Madone (2021 Madone SL 6, OCLV 500): Noticeably more compliant (IsoSpeed decoupler slider wasn't even halfway up front), heavy to accelerate (the Bontrager Aeolus Comp 5s are to blame). The cons: Venge: Electronic groupsets only (thus requires a lot of money to build one up), harsh ride isn't for everyone (I actually kind of like it), might look quite ugly if you run other cockpits (yes, you can run any stem you want. It comes with a headset cover with three holes for the hydraulic hoses and one wire to come out of), BB30 (for PressFit haters) Madone: Shift housing stops at the control center inside the down tube (will drop out of it if you accidentally yank the shift housing) (if you run mechanical), requires slim 5 mm hex bits to torque the seat mast down (regular ones are too fat and will mar the recessed section), shortest cumulative cockpit reach with the Madone's own cockpit is 173 mm (80 + 93 mm, too long for short-bodied riders like me, or at least that's what I think for me), bad front derailleur clearance (chain rub is inevitable), horrible rear derailleur hanger clearance (impossible to realign with any big-headed hanger alignment gauge like the Park Tool DAG-2) Between these two aero bikes, I'll take the Venge any day. Edit: The updated version of the Madone (with a T47I BB shell, Madone SLR only as of the 2021 model year) can run full-length shift housings, all the way to the derailleur. (if you run mechanical) However, this means mechanical groupset builds are only for Shimano groupsets since only their current-gen front derailleurs (ex. Shimano Dura-Ace FD-R9100) can seat the shift housing directly at the derailleur body.

I would take the Madone...even though it's heavier and not more aero, I think it looks better, with a better integrated system. And cherry on top, it uses a T47 BB which is *miles* better than OSBB 😅 But I think I would take an Émonda over the Madone. Just so I can do a little bit more of everything. Just so you know GC, the IsoSpeed system doesn't use an elastomer but it uses a separate seat-tube with some kind of bearing and that slider under the top tube allows you to soften or make the ride stiffer...

@@yonglingng5640 It's exactly the same thing....Both are bearings press-fitted into an alloy sleve, with a nominal diameter of 42mm, 7mm in thickness and 30mm in internal diameter. Both are very well known to creak and to create more problems than the PF-30 or BB386 EVO standard. In summary, BB30/OSBB is trash. (Btw, it's called BB30 OSBB for a reason....). Anything else?

Would be good if you could have weighed them under equal conditions; trying compare a 58cm Trek with a tool bag on it and lower spec Force components to a 54cm Specialised with no bar tape and high-end components isn’t relevant or very informative... The Trek is still probably heavier but not by that much. Trek’s frame tubes are wider and the bike is more aero. Great video though, thank you for posting it.👍

I know the bikes have various extra bits hanging off them, but msn that Madone is heavy! I honestly believe that all the aero tweaks does not overcomes a bike that is 1.5- 2.0 kg heavier than a classic climbing bike would be. The thicker tube section are actually more draggy once their is any crosswind to deal with. It’s a fact. Hambini actually crunched the numbers on a recent video. To an extent the Aethos has shown what modern composite developments can achieve. For the average person, I believe this would be a faster package, particularly when there are any hills. If had to choose one here, it would have to be the Venge....

About the weight: Different frame sizes. Not sure from videos about the tires and wheels. Also what’s in the seat bike bag? Could account for some of the Wright difference. Most riders aren’t racers. Most want to go fast but also go long. In the real world: the comfort factor is more important than a small weight difference. Certainly most riders can stand to lose a few pounds which riding longer will facilitate. Also here in Florida a hill is a bridge. A mountain is two bridges. Weight isn’t felt once you are at speed, whatever that is depending on your fitness and age. Nice video. By the way I’ve an SLR7 Domane. Really comfortable.

I went with a Emonda over a Madone. I couldn’t justify paying 7 to 8k for a 20 pound bike. I don’t understand how as a top end bike manufacturer that has a world tour team can have a bike that’s so heavy. I had a 2014 Madone in a 58 that weighed 15lbs.

@@azk_182 well sure but my weight is estimated with a rear light and a sp connect front mount with a cateye gvolt70 and an iphone xr + the sp connect phone case. the package in the front alone is something like 500g. without it I'd sit at something like 8.8kg or so, wich is not too much heavier, especially since my bike was 2000€, still has aluminium stem, handlebar, seatpost and rims meaning I could save another 300-400g, if not more. and it has "just" 105, wich does weight ~200g more than ultegra. I just think it was interesting to see where even very top-of the-line bikes can sit at, you know? makes me feel better hahaha edit: and I still forgot about the saddle, tires and tubes. I understand where you are coming from... you have your bike you love your bike and you see no reason to upgrade and etc. I have been in this industry for the longest time. I have seen bikes go through the works the revisions mountain bikes go from v brakes to discs, 26 to 29 wheels rim brake to disc brakes. There is no stopping it and there is no reason too, iots just the industry and allows these companies to make these high end bikes..... if you want a rim brake regular road bike there are companies out there..... PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS GLORIFY when there is a rim brake win and be like "see thats why there better" and not even flinch when the world champion has won on rim brakes the past like 6 times or how many stages were won on disc brakes.... its jsut insane to me. it might not make sense to for you to have these bikes where you live.... but 100 percent for sure there is a difference riding these aero bikes and we have felt these differences of them being able to carry speeds on flat roads.....
@waynosfotos
@waynosfotos 3 жыл бұрын
@@GCPerformance18 i understand you are promoting new tech, but physics doesn't support the marketing claims. THE TRUTH! many experts wil agree. The move to disc was because of carbon clincher failures due to the resin going soft with continuous braking and the tyre being blown off the rim. The manufacturers tried different resins but were either too expensive or didn't work, so they moved to disc. I have no problem with this safety move. BUT to say they stop better or are more aero is just a flat out lie! The two most important things on a low energy vehicle is weight and wind drag. Disc brakes offer niether. I am sorry that is just the facts. For ultimate road bike racing performance, a rim brake bike is still superior.
@waynosfotos
@waynosfotos 3 жыл бұрын
@@louispastore7301 sorry physics does not support that. If you think having a higher spoke count and a spinning disc on your front wheel is more aero and having more "power" and heavier bike stops you quicker. Enjoy the kool aid. I did a detailed vid on my channel explaining all this.
