What is the best primer for an antique tin ceiling that has peeling in a few spots? I’m painting black btw.

Thanks for the video. My friend recommended Kel-Bond that’s how I found your video. Question: I want to skimcoat my textured walls/ceilings in my home which have been pained with paint that has some sheen to it. Would Kel-Bond work to prime the existing paint before I skimcoat over it?

What primer and finish paint is best for painting old stained cabinets

Start with a stain blocking oil based primer like S-W extreme block.

So I thought I was gonna have a easy paint job in my house. Little to my knowledge that was not the case. I ran into the old paint peeling. I thought I knew what I was doing but clearly not. lol so with that ending said I tried to just paint the wall and it just peeled the paint off again. So which of these should I use to keep the edges down so I can spackle it sand it and paint

I painted an old smokey dresser that smelled like a Salvation Army store. Painted the wooden drawers with an amber shellac,think it was Zinnzer product. Has a sweet smell but sealed odor up.

Question: considering PVA drywall primer is technically a sealer. Will prep sanding it prior to painting have a negative effect on its "sealing" abilities?? Thanks 😊

When you use BIN on a whole-house interior project, like the one you referred to with the cats, how did you apply it? Did you use a sprayer (or would you suggest that)?

sprayed it

If the peel stop is clear, and the color I am covering is dark, relative to the new top coat, shouldn’t I be using a white tinted primer? The peel stop I purchased from Benjamin Moore is clear and I think it states, on the label, that it isn’t tintable .

What primer do you recommend for pine wood siding? It's brand new, on the exterior and is in a humid/hot environment six months of the year (Oklahoma). I have heard oil based is best for wood siding, but some people suggest an acrylic based primer is better because it lets the wood breath.
@That1Painter Жыл бұрын
Just a standard exterior latex primer will be fine unless you have a difficult spot and you feel oil is absolutely necessary

What primer should I use if I want to paint over wallpaper? Removing the paper is not an option as it was glued directly to the drywall…
@randygreen66529 ай бұрын
Did you do it already? I'm getting ready for that same scenario. Was going to use cover up primer, skim coat the seams, caulk the base and trim areas, then sand and another coat of cover up.. spackle sand and paint. Curious how you did it and how it turned out.
@nathanmortenson9142 ай бұрын
That's a tough one. I've done wallpaper removal it's a tedious job a regardless of the method it leaves a residue. The amount of time it took I thought it might been quicker to seal it and retexture the wall. I think alot of it would depend on what type of wall paper was used because some are actual paper and some are more like a vinyl that might be a problem for most paints/primers to stick to over time.

What is the best product to use like in a bathroom where the paint is blistering from too much moisture? I scraped the areas and replastered the spots, then primed and painted but it started blistering again about a year later
@nathanmortenson9142 ай бұрын
I tried the DryLok👨🦲 paint on my own house around the shower tile and behind the kitchen sink. It holds up pretty well. It's a moisture barrier paint cement basements they also make one to seal swimming pools. It has a bit of a sandy grit texture so you wouldn't want to use it everywhere,only problem areas.
@nathanmortenson9142 ай бұрын
Your problem could also be (depending on the age of your house).That at some point someone painted over an oil based paint with a latex without using a good primer. Being a bathroom makes worse because it usually a slicker sheen. (Good for water) bad for paint to stick too. That's why I'm watching this video to see if 3x thick can fix the peeling.

I worked in a shop of a large painting contractor over 100 painters. Every job's materials sent out that went out was a can of bin just in case.

The shellac primer is great and also sands extremely smooth, HOWEVER here in California, they have now banned denatured alcohol (thank you politicians....) which is needed for working with any shellac-based paint since alcohol is the solvent used for shellac. You can still clean with acetone, but it takes a lot more and more time and effort. Still though, I do love the stuff and nothing else compares.
@That1Painter2 жыл бұрын
That’s too bad!

You can also use an ammonia and water solution to clean brushes and sprayers after using shellac! Zinser BIN even now lists this on the label.

What's the best for priming amuminium? Can it be done?
@That1Painter2 жыл бұрын
Aluminum can be primer coated with a metal primer like DTM primer and there’s a few rust killing primers that work well too. However primer coating is usually only necessary the first time the aluminum is being painted if it’s a repaint primer is not usually needed unless peeling or bad rust.
