I've been recommending them to people looking for their first snek and I don't even have one. Someone needs to breed and bring out those patterns!

House snakes can also fire up like crested geckos! My black house snake will change from pitch black to a brownish color with a whiter belly. It’s a pretty cool thing that these snakes are able to do!

I've been working on getting an African house snake, and it can honestly be difficult to find a bunch of information for them due to them being more uncommon in the hobby. But people like you always come to the rescue! Thanks!!

Glad to see this video, I have two African House, Snakes, a cape male be about a year old this summer and I bought a female about three months ago. Both from breeders one from Florida well-known breeder for African House, Snake, Female🐍. The Cape was eating very well with frozen and then as the winter came, he just stopped eating For several months. The black house snake I got only 6 g eat twice for me and she stopped eating when the show came here in town. I bought some pinkies and some fuzzies. They did eat them, but that’s a problem for me because they’re not readily available not surewhat to do, they have the humidity. They have the hotspot and cold spot. They have a wet hide. They look healthy I don’t know if they’re gonna make it any thoughts?

Forget the other dudes Channel but he talked about the necessity of force feeding them or compulsive feeding however you wish to call it

Did they start eating again? I have one, and he fasted during Winter when the ambient temps were cool, but he resumed in Spring.

Hey, i actually saw you in Beasties one day a few months ago. Ive been considering one of these for while. Now I'm gonna definitely make a drive to Pueblo (Beasties), unless you have another suggestion? Great video! Thanks

one thing I noticed about my cape is that she loves loves loves to climb and even hangs her head diagonally as if shes waiting for something to fly by.

Black house snakes are actually a separate species! Boaedon fuliginosus are the blacks, while Boaedon capensis are the Capes/browns. Although there are other localities and species to.

House snake special, yay! 💚 House snakes make amazing pets, totally agree. Though I'm hesitant to suggest them for beginners because of their small size (especially as babies, they're tiny, super fast and have no regard for their own safety). I'm actually surprised to learn they can have trouble adjusting to frozen/thawed since I always thought house snakes have an appetite "like a boa but more ambitious". I wonder if it makes a difference if they're fed frozen/thawed from the beginning. Edit: Now that I thought about it a bit more, out of my four house snakes, the only one that periodically gives me issues with refusing meals is my black house snake. 99.9% coincidence but it's still interesting that the one house snake that doesn't eat like a black hole is the black house snake.

I'm very confused about why you keep calling them colubrids when you admit that they are not colubrids. It just makes so much more sense to be very clear that African house snakes belong to a separate lineage of snakes, Lamprophiidae, despite superficial resemblance to some colubrids.

I use air quotes. Anything with taxonomy or proper terms becomes muddy especially when you have a collective vernacular. Ex: codominant and incomplete dominant, BCI and BI

Howdy everyone. Quick question. I have a male brown house snake who is roughly 2 1/2 years old. He normally eats like a savage but for the last 2 months has not wanted to eat at all. He is not interested at all even if I leave the mouse(defrost) in the enclosure. He still seems healthy , very active and alert still drinks water but refuses to eat. I read that it may be due to mating season but I'm very unsure. Any ideas or suggestions I would be very grateful. Thank you kindly

@@MichaelKruger-g9r could be breeding, could be the time of the year with cold temps, pressure changes

@JzsReptiles hi thanks for replying I'm on the south coast of kzn in south Africa. December January February are our hottest months although it's definitely a bit cooler compared to previous years. Humidity not a problem at anytime of the year 😂. If it is due to breeding season , is it a health problem for either male or female to not find a mate ?
@JzsReptiles13 күн бұрын
@@MichaelKruger-g9r so some reptiles especially in Africa like Angolan and rock pythons will actually find cooler places and go into a version of brumation in the hottest months, so it still could be the time of year. As for breeding, males will be fine but females may self cycle and drop infertile eggs. They can get egg bound but I don’t know enough about the species as far as breeding to give a good idea of how likely
