I have a storage loft in a metal building that needs a heavy duty ladder for safety and mobility. So this is how I built my simple loft ladder to help with overhead storage.
This loft ladder is easy to build and it would work great for you too.

Perfect! I need this for my plant shelf that's about 9 ft high...I'm so tired of my noisy ugly aluminum ladder 🪜! Now all I need is to find someone with "skills"!

Nice quick and easy ladder! Well done! I have watched literally dozens of ladder videos because we are going to build a ship ladder to get into our attic, and you are the ONLY person who thought to make a jig for angling the steps! I have seen so many ways of doing it, some smart, some so convoluted that I have no idea how anyone could follow it...the jig, brilliant!

Great idea and vid. I would add a pair of chains, one to either side with hooks. Placing an eyelet on the ladder sides and on the wall to prevent the ladder from moving while climbing.

Nice, you should add a couple of French cleat brackets so you can store it on the wall
@lincolndickerson1293
@lincolndickerson1293 Жыл бұрын
For a minute I thought you were going to integrate it into your french cleat wall. Actually using a cleat at the top would prevent it from slipping off by accident. Thanks for showing us this build.
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 Жыл бұрын
You are definitely correct, and that can be done, but I will be moving it around at times and the cleats are not fully across the wall. I guess that is just an excuse 🙂 so I should have done it.

@@SpecificLove7 Just put a 16in cleat and screw it to the very top or the wall and cut a notch near the top of the ladder where you made the flat notches. Super easy. 😃

I like the simplicity of the basic design and you definitely did some thinking for me with the 14 degree angle. That said, this is severely overbuilt. Glue plus three screws would hold a thousand pounds on the ledger board alone, plus the fasteners going through the actual step itself is another thousand on both sides... Whatre you hauling up this thing an elephant?

Hi, I was wondering what size structural screw you used there?
@princedax77

Love it it would be great in our lofted shed just one question concerning heavier people I'm on the heavy side would this plan work for 300+lbs or different fasteners needed for safety?
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 Жыл бұрын
I would definitely consider some heavier duty fasteners and maybe 2x8 for steps. I'm not sure what the weight rating would be for the side rails, so you might want to check that out. I do need to say that I'm not a structural engineer so I don't know what the weight limit would be on this setup.

Maybe I misspoke. If it was a commercial building then I would have attached it. That definitely is my building and it is attached to the house. 🙂

Hey there! So, I've got this little issue with my attic ladder. One of the wooden steps has cracked a bit, and I really want to replace it. I noticed that it's held together with screws, so it seems like a simple fix, right? But here's the thing, I have no clue where I can actually buy a replacement step. Anybody out there happen to know? I'm just looking for the step itself, not the whole darn ladder. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any shops that specialize in selling attic ladder parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@risunokairu

@@SpecificLove7 if you put a swiveling hook on the side of the ladder, you could secure it to the cleat for stabilization, but it could still be moved and used elsewhere, so it wouldn’t be limited.

Shouldn’t you be using nails because screws snap?
@SpecificLove7

It is possible, but since I used a bunch for each step and reinforced each step with a large construction screw, they should be okay for my usage.

put a lip or cleat on the top to lock the top in so it doest slip off. or a screw in the foot that you could leave in the leg and unscrew when the ladder is stored. that thing will slip off and ruin your year
