We saw them from the flat yesterday evening: impressive. Now home again, so waiting for the next fine day when the Spitfires will be out again. I think I read somewhere that the Packard-built Merlins fitted to Mustangs were better engineered than the Royce-built ones.

Rolls-Royce machining was carried out to rather loose tolerances and skilled and experienced fitters hand scraped, lapped and fettled parts to a perfect fit and finish. Every Rolls-Royce engine was different and parts could not be interchanged between engines. Packard machining was carried out to much tighter tolerances, using tooling and techniques developed in the American motor industry, which required little to no finishing. These engines could be assembled by unskilled workers, more quickly and economically. They were not better engineered. Rolls-Royce Merlins were hand built to perfection whereas Packard Merlins were mass manufactured. Packard Merlin engines were not better engineered. Packard manufactured a lot of Merlin engines, when quantity was needed, at a quality that was sufficient to last the typical 25 hour lifespan of the aircraft they powered.

I miss the main informations about what is going on there. These are the three Horsemen, US based pilots, only team doing a full aerobatic program with Mustangs in stunning close formation. To be seen at Airpower airshow in Zeltweg, Austria today friday and tomorrow. As they didnt bring their own planes from rhe states, they use european based planes. I guess what we see in the video was training for the show in Austria. Am I right ??

Tolles Video, toller Sound inkl. der Fehlzündungen bei der Landung beim Gas wegnehmen. 👍🏻 Von wem wird die "Hun Hunter" WR * Z betrieben? Die Mustang hat es mir seit meiner Kindheit angetan, habe in den ca. 40 Jahren unzählihe Modelle der 51 gebaut, darunter auch RC Modelle.

Hey, I just checked out your latest vid to ask if you saw the P51 the other day, I guess it was around 10am on Wed or Thu, I was in work in Lenzburg, heard sound of an unusual aircraft, maybe a WWII engine, couldn't see it outside the window, check FR24 and saw it in formation with a GA aircraft, dam missed it, so close! Saved the reg in my app. Was it a special event, or just luck?
