In this situation if you can through film evidence say this person caused this they should get a DUI test, they've been out there since 6sm to get their spot and might be 16 drinks into the day when the race comes by and completely spun out then to cause this. If found to be drunk they should bear the responsibility for financial restitution for all the months of trading and broken bikes. I think that would curtail this.

Baffles me that people were that close to the track. I’ve had to tell parents off in children’s athletic events to get off of the track. We had to pause for 15 minutes because a parent refused and screamed at me while I politely asked everyone to scoot back because they’re in a lane. Almost into two lanes. The headteacher had to step in and reprimand them infront of spectators because of their disgusting behaviour. I was like 16 running an event we had to set up for our exams. You can blame the organisers too for allowing people to be that close to the track but people like to be run over and insert themselves into events.

For anybody who is wondering about the punishment for the sign holding woman: "The spectator, a 31-year-old woman who has not been publicly identified, was found guilty by a criminal court in Brest of reckless endangerment and involuntarily causing injuries. The woman, who stepped onto the road during the race and had her back to the cyclists, was fined 1,200 euros, or about $1,350 - far less than the maximum penalties she was facing. The charges under consideration carried a possible one-year prison term and a fine of €15,000. At the woman’s trial, in October, prosecutors requested a four-month suspended prison sentence. this is why there should be laws against people being within a certain distance of the riders.

@@markcox1028 people climb Barriers. Lots of people try to touch or distract riders or get attention. If there were fines and possible jail time it might discourage it a bit.

@@advo9226 I've seen 1 highway maintenance truck lay ten miles of cones in a night. Can't be that hard to do something with the right teams on hand. Laws would be more difficult... people crowd cyclists going up a steep incline and that's something spectators and cyclists alike seem to enjoy.
@markcox10283 жыл бұрын
@@pookienumnums why not just ban spectators then? I'm not against trying to do something to keep them back but getting laws put in place specifically for this seems a bit much. There may already be existing laws which, if made clear, could be used against any idiot who does something like this. Isn't it all a bit of a catch-22 anyway? Wouldn't most cyclists argue that having people right there beside them on the road is a part of the atmosphere?
