Anybody else always go direct to the section called Solo? Whether the old tab books, or this new KZbin thing, I always did that. Then I had to face up to how decades later I could play lots of solos and make up some tricky licks, but I never really became a musician. I can noodle away, but if asked to play a tune I will look like a deer in the headlights going 'ummm' and feeling like a beginner. Apart from my early garage band days when we knew a few tunes, I became the quintessential bedroom noodler guitar player. This time I managed to make myself learn one verse before jumping straight to the solo lol. I'll kick the bucket long before my old habits do I guess. :P P.S. Good lesson. Seems legit to the way he would have played it. That's rare. Tabs often seem to be notated by trumpet players or something, i.e., not guitar friendly.

Hi Sped. Hmm Im only 3 years late! Anyway, Just have a question on the f# part. Does Jimmy do it the way you play it? I learned it by playing the B-A 4ths at the 7th fret position. You still have to get back to the F# quickly but it seems a little smoother not having to string jump. You're already on the E-A-D strings and just sliding down. I don't know. What do you think? I know you have a great ear and are the Zep master so who better to ask?! btw, love your vids and the laughs too!

For some reason ,I cannot figure, I have had a tough time getting the beginning of the first solo. I am really frustrated, as it should be no problem for me, as I have been playing a loooong time. Oh well, one note at a time it will have to be, because breking into short phrases has been one of the problems. Grrrrrr! Edit: I walked away from the lesson ,made a pot of water for a cup of tea, and attacked the solo with fresh eyes and fingers, and Bang! Got it down. Still have a tough time playing it along with the track...Pages speed is amazing in both his rhythm and solo playing. The man is a friggin genius.Edit: Here I am a day later and I have to re-hash the solo again.....It`s a tricky, fast and hard to play on the higher notes on my Les Paul. Hell it is a tough nut to crack with ANY guitar!

Hey Billy, yeah I often barre for efficiency with runs like that. To get the separation between the notes I’m releasing the pressure intermittently to stop sustain, kinda gives the illusion I fret every note. Check out a recent video I did about keeping your playing tidy too.

You are doing the D part in the chorus wrong. Start on the open D and hammer on the A and upper D at the 7th fret. Also start the turn around on the open D and hammer on the F sharp at the 4th fret. This is much easier and imparts a more rhythmic percussive feel. NOBODY on the interweb has picked up on this. John Paul Jones does these hammer on's constantly and it is crucial to his sound. I think Jimmy just copied jpj here.

So down I go and I buy the Album and take it home and put it on,,, on comes Good Times, Bad Times,, and I'm frozen in place. then comes the second verse and Bonzo's heel and toe on the bass drum,,, and I go "what the F dd he just do"? And my musical life was never the same ! My dad got So tired of hearing me play that LP over and over again and again!
