I liked how in Morrowind it forced you to awkwardly say "goodbye" after a successful taunt. And you could intimidate people into being your best friend.

Only temporarily. While Intimidate does raise disposition, after you end the conversation, it will drop by twice as much. So if it starts at 50 and you raise it to 74 using intimidation, when you next talk, disposition will be 26.

Oblivion may be the easiest to make work, but it did something very few other games have managed, which is making speech an actual gameplay activity rather than an arbitrary "pass/fail" or a percentage chance based on where you dumped a few points.

NGL tho I actually thought speech craft in oblivion was kinda quaint, at least they tried something that was an interactive game play mechanic not just roll dice on % chance number and hope you win. I mean you had to do something, albeit it was dumb but at least you were playing the game not just rolling dice and hoping you don't have to quick load.

Meanwhile speechcraft in Daggerfall! ... ... ...
@matheusjahnke8643
@matheusjahnke8643 9 ай бұрын
Honestly... it's kinda crazy. There is an attribute "personality"... honestly would have called it charisma so the shortened spelling "CHA" instead of "PER" wouldn't make me think of... perception. There is an approach(polite, normal and blunt) which works better on different people; There are 2 skills streetwise(good for blunt) and etiquette(good for polite). But there's more. Etiquette can pacify vampires and lichs and some humans[warriors, archers,....](a.k.a. they won't attack unless you attack or pickpocket them first) Streetwise can pacify some human enemies[assassins, rogues, ...]. This happens at moment you are seen by them. And on the topic of pacification... there are many language skills... each with their set of enemies that may be pacified with it.
@DarkOmegaMK2
@DarkOmegaMK2 9 ай бұрын
@@matheusjahnke8643 I was aware of the language skill being used as pacification, but i didn't know streetwise and etiquette had an application on enemy encounters. As for the pacification system as a whole: In theory it is a good thing that you can solve encounters peacefully and it might save from a tough situation, but on the other hand, some might see it as pointless because you could simply kill the enemy/enemies from that encounter, also, pacification (as far as i remember) does not grant you XP, so, in a way, you are harming your progression by using pacification.
@matheusjahnke8643
@matheusjahnke8643 9 ай бұрын
@@DarkOmegaMK2 you can also attack while they are pacified. You get a free hit. They get hostile back again. And every time the pacification rolls you get XP in the relevant skill. Even if you fail.

@@DarkOmegaMK2 that's one thing Daggerfall does better than Morrowind; In Daggerfall you get XP each roll(even if failed)... meanwhile in Morrowind you get XP for success... So at some point it's easier to raise high skill than low skill just because it is more reliable.

I actually think the likes/dislikes on the Oblivion wheel appear either in a pattern or it's predetermined and not totally random... I don't even check their faces. I click the first one and then somehow my subconscious knows what to click next based on whether the first click was good or bad. Just don't randomly click on the biggest slice unless you have a good feeling about it. You only go total negative disposition after all 4 if you hit the biggest slice on the unhappiest quarter. Anything else is either neutral or positive

Skyrim persuasion is basically like being the cop in the Morrowind example, except it works most of the time. "Do what I say or I'll kill you!" "Fine. I'll cooperate with you. You are a very persuasive psychopath." "Lol. I was going to kill you regardless, but thanks for making things easier."

Eyeglasses wouldn't help all that much, the spray would spread easily behind them, like mist. Depends on what sort of spray it was, as well. I was once about 10 meters (30+ feet) away when a cop sprayed an addict. I still felt a tingling effect, a little bit, after a moment, when remnants of the stuff were carried by air currents. Of course cops might use extra strong chemicals, but who knows.
