ahhhhhhhhhhhh, 30-40% of my 1RM. No damn wonder..... I have been trying to do speed presses with 60% of my 1RM and wondered why the hell my form suffered so badly. Thanks for this video! And as you say, my shoulders hurt from it

I did speed work for the first time today, even with a mild head cold I got up off the bench and just felt weirdly refreshed the entire time. I felt like I was putting in good work while not destroying myself.

Same. I'm a 4 plate bencher at 38yo, all natural. I did "speed bench" banded toward the end of last week and i truly believe it's been the missing link. Keep me posted here as to how ur work is going.

Man I have been doing 70% for DE for squat and bench focusing on moving the weight as fast as I could. Conjugate is new to me and this could be the change I need to make my pressing get better. I also have a training partner that is having elbow issues. I will have to share this video with him.

Hey matt, I'm an older lifter who just started using your system. I love it although those 4x25 warm ups take a toll on how much I can lift at the moment I'm sure they will pay off in the long run! Also, a closer super tight grip on my bench takes away shoulder pain! Thanks for these excellent videos and I highly recommend your digital course.

I've been told to use 60-70% if not using bands or chains for my speed work? I do a 2 day variant of conjugate due to the large amount of time and energy my BJJ / Wrestling sessions take up. I do Day 1 - Max Effort Squat / DL + Lower Accessories + Speed Bench Day 2 - Max Effort Bench + Upper Accessories + Speed Squat / DL My bar speed is nowhere near as quick as yours. Should i lower to 30-40%?

Really depends on your federation & body type. Essentially, which ever one you’re able to move weight the fastest is the one you should use because acceleration is key. Hope this helps.

9x3 & 8x3 is often the standard for speed days. They’re usually performed 3 days after max effort work so that the fatigue from one workout doesn’t affect the other. Hope this helps.

You do have a point it does have to do with overall more volume but learning to lift faster/more explosive does help to push through points when weights get heavier. However speed work doesn’t really have a benefit if you’re beginner and have not built a base of strength first
