One of the foundation skills in freediving is the ability to dive consistently and reliably at the right speed, the speed that's most comfortable for you, though all of your training sessions, PB attempts, and competition dives.
Speed-control is the first level of maximizing your efficiency & making sure you are staying safe as your progress in distance & depth.
The 'speed-game' is a fun way to challenge your buddies to some friendly competition & build all of the basic awareness and control that you need to reliably dive at the right speed for you.

Yeah, that sounds like fun. 50m is my personal best. I can do it once per session. Having to do it 6 to 12 times sounds like fun indeed! 🙄😱

Hey Jo, As we discussed the last few times, I think you have more foundational work that needs to be done before attempting any of these more advanced exericses. I remember you mentioned not being able to comfortably swim for 50+m, which is going to make comfortably freediving for that same distance almost impossible. Of course, when I make these videos I assume an 'average' level. But anyone can make any adjustments the need. If you wanted to do it on 25m reps, that's up to you. You'd just need to find a way (3rd person out of the water) doing the timing since they'd need to clock the time at each end, instead of from the same side as with 50m reps..

Hey Nathan, do you think that a diver should train breath holds (Co2 tolerance) in all disciplines in all of the phases? For example having dedicated training days for each discipline in a week. Or is it better to focus on one discipline for co2 tolerance and work on technique for other disciplines in the early phase, and only train all of them in the second and third phase? For example, do dyn bifins for co2 tolerance, and only work on technique for mono and no fins, in phase 1, and then work on all of them to 75-90% in phase 2 and 3.

That's a bit of a complex answer to give. For 1, I rarely suggest training all 4 disciplines if your intention is to improve your PB. In my experience, training all 3-4 (for comp) should come with the consideration that you'll need to accept that you either aren't improving PB in any, or are improving 1-2, and hitting sub-PB performances in the other two. That being said, CO2 is an 'accessory' area, meaning that it doesn't need to be goal specific: You can train CO2 with any of the disciplines & it will carry over well. When you get to more 'overall' breath-hold exercises (specific, not accessory) then you need to train it for all disciplines relatively equally (this is why it's hard to improve all of them in the same cycle).

@@trainfreediving2772 Thanks for the reply, Nathan. I was wondering how well the carry over between disciplines, which is why it prompted me to ask you this. Totally understood that it would affect PBs in all disciplines.
