Speed Paint a Great Unclean One with no airbrush!

I have one of these models sitting half painted because I just couldn't follow the tutorial I found for it, I think it might be (slightly ironically) taking a bath and started again with your scheme. I think the prejudice against contrasts is slowly dying a death, i do alot with colour theory and the reactions and feedback are incredibly positive, topical bit out of the way, this is pure fan service at its best, fantastic scheme and great to see this model come to life. I'll paint one when my pile of potential is a bit smaller 😂😂 great job Andy!

Yeah I think they were definitely seen as a gimmick at the start but then people worked out how to use them best! Haha yeah I think everyone needs to paint one at some point 😄 he’s a lot of fun, definitely put him in the list!

I think the horns look very good, something I have experimented with when it comes to horns and similar objects is to paint with a shade first such as Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade or Seraphim Sepia to build up levels, so that they are darker closest to the body and lighter in the tops before I paint with Skeleton Horde and the results have been very pleasing, my friends have been asking what colors I have used on the different layers. The rest of the model made me nauseous, so good job there 😂

If you like Nurgle models, you should check out Paragon Star minis, who do 3D printed WH40k Chaos compatible minis at nice prices. I have a few, and the detail is amazing, and they fit very nicely into most armies. LOVE this video, as I am a true Nurgle fanatic, and seeing how just contrast and dry-brushing works together is something I always try and find.

Looks great bud :-) I really like speed paints of any kind very useful I like to use them as an over paint work great for marines and tanks :-) do my shadings in blacks, whites and any other colour for more pop and use very thin layers over it. Its what I done for my Word Bearers HH army :-D Just wondering but have you seen OnePageRules Plague Avatar or the Epic Plague Avater? If so what do you think of them thanks again.

Great work, I was one of the people who asked for this video and you didn't disappoint!! One question I have for your next video is do you varnish your models when they're finished and if so what do you use?? Contrast is more fragile than traditional acrylic but given that you normally use a wash and then layer over the top do you feel that varnish is necessary?? Thanks for the content, keep up the good work!!

I usually don’t bother with varnish! As you said the contract gets locked in with the shade so I’m not ever worried. Plus with models like these, you can get them to a tabletop standard and you can always go back and add more details if you want at a later stage so I just skip varnish!

quick question for the contrast video: What are some tips to ensuring that the contrast paint doesn't become spotty when painting large cloaks, robes or flat surfaces (vizzik skirt is a relevant example for my current project) because no matter what i do or how much i assault the area with paint it turns out spotty and i get frustrated. Sorry if the question was already asked, you have helped my painting tremendously in the past 2-3 months since i started.
