Great tutorial and a great look! Some thoughts while I watched: 1. The overbrushing with brown was a good idea; tried it before to good effect. 2. If you want an easy worn leather effect, after the overbrush has dried (depending on your brush control, before or after a wash), put your highlight colours on your palette and do a series of wet drybrushes over. Don’t clean your brush between or wait for the prior coat to fully dry. Working up the highlights like this with an older brush can create some nice and really easy texture while making your highlights. 3. I recently stumbled into an easy way for woodgrain. Do your wood highlights *before* washing, then grab some Rakarth Flesh and your oldest, grungiest brush. Ideally one that’s starting to splay out. Do some *very* light, flicking drybrushing over the wood. You don’t want it to be consistent or even - just enough to get some streaks and flicks in the direction of the wood grain. Initially, Rakarth will stand out too much - especially on a darker base (e.g., Doombull Brown) - but when you apply the wash to the model after, it’ll knock it down and help the Rakarth blend with the wood colour - giving you some easily-visible wood grain.

These are some fantastic tips, thanks for sharing! I think people can often dismiss drybrushing and overbrushing as basic and messy techniques, but sometimes that's the very thing that makes them perfect for certain situations, like getting those worn, scratched up leather effects you mentioned! 😁

@@TheHobbyGrotto Aye! I admit, I neglected it for a long time too. It's actually really handy! I think the it really comes down to "every technique has a time and place." For example, if you want a tight-knit fabric, like for a shirt? Layering or wet blending are your best choices. Want a bit more texture or to do something faster? Drybrushing. Even more texture? Lean more into wet techniques with brushing. One thing I forgot to mention? For #1, use an older drybrush if you can. As you're leaving the paint on your brush longer than you normally would, it's far more likely to dry on the bristles, degrading it long-term. Yeah... I get a LOT of use out of my mangy brushes lol

Did you consider going a little lighter on the initial ironbreaker application for the pauldrons and greases got get a bit more of a rusted look, also maybe some scratchy orange-brown highlights (something like the old snakebite leather) on the baldric strap to make it look like a different leather from the coat. I really like how shadowy the face came out though.

Generally for my speed paint videos I'm going for a tabletop standard with a good base that can be expanded upon should you wish 😀 More grime and details could definitely be added to this! I have actually thought about adding some more to the baldric/bag strap to give it some more contrast from the clothing, in hindsight I probably should have painted it in the lighter brown I used for the bag and pouches, but I also liked the idea of it being a rich brown like the other Rhinox areas 😁
