The needlefish fact was great lol. I know someone who got stabbed by one, at night, while pointing a light at them. He was diving with someone who was nervous cause there were a bunch of them jumping out of the water, so he pointed a flashlight at them to show that they weren’t dangerous…. and was promptly stabbed in the neck

I love that you talked about linguistic relics like "godspeed" and "by Jove" because with the discontinuation of the iPod in 2022, "podcast" is officially also one of those!
@0oShwavyo029 күн бұрын
I only learned this one very recently, long after the ipod became obsolete. I had never questioned the “pod” in podcast before, I just took it at face value that a group of people chatting about something for entertainment is called a podcast, even though I now realize thats what radio has been doing for decades 😅

I saw a school of very large needle fish while snorkeling in Hawaii as a kid, and the crazy thing was they were rapidly changing colors and patterns. They would instantly flash between silver, black, striped and spots. I reported this to my family, none of whom believed me, so I forced my father to come out with me, relocate them, and then follow them until they repeated behavior. The shock on my father’s face and my insanely high levels of smug satisfaction is genuinely one of my greatest memories from childhood. We go to Hawai’i most summers, and I have only seen them once.

I was trying to compliment the idea of Ceri and her sister making a gaming channel, but apparently certain words trigger KZbin's auto-moderation to delete the comment every time under the assumption it's spam. Damn invalid heuristics! *shakes fist* Anyway, I think it's a good idea, and have now avoided the words I believe trigger the deletion bot... hopefully this comment stays up!

LOVE TO SEE YOU ALL TOGETHER 💙💙 I think I will never stop watching and enjoying this podcast as I grow. These guys all are an absolute joy to watch/listen to. And all of them are top inspirations for me (as far as "public figures"/internet people go, alongside snake discovery's emily and ed, overly sarcastic profuctions, and some other I can't find off the top of my head:"D) Started listening to this back in late 2021/early 2022. Currently I'm at 18, and who knows maybe I'll still be here until I'm over 50😊

40:00 - I remember this story and he was more than bruised and shaken, the G-force literally pulled the cornea from his eyes and his legs were bruised and he had burst blood vessels all over his face... That was an insane experiment and the footage is equally as crazy, I suggest looking it up because it's crazy they even put a human on that sled. SMH

So back when the first speed limit was broken cars were supposed to have a person walking in front of them to inform people of the very dangerous machine hurtling towards them. Presumably the real problem with going at 8mph was the person not being in front

Re: Ceri's explanation of Gs toward the end: It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the end. Pretty sure Stapp got a detached retina from that 46-ish G record, fighter pilots tend to black out at 10G.
@DeliveryMcGee Жыл бұрын
But that 10G sustained turn is one thing, Stapp and car wreck victims, and racecar drivers, proved you can survive WAY more than that instantaneous (if properly tied down*), and probably won't remember the trauma. (*at some point eyes-forward deceleration makes your head pop off like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots if you don't have a HANS, see Dale Sr. of NASCAR fame)

I thought "God speed" was usually used to mean something closer to "travel Safely"
@AlturiigosWritingBlockBlogspot Жыл бұрын
For how fast a human can safely go, I feel like two considerations are the medium and or method of locomotion. If you had super-speed, how fast before air resistance became harmful? Based on the required forces to move the body, what's the limit of force the legs can output before it starts to hurt the muscles and joints?

Dumb question here, but why don't we care about direction when talking about speed?... a ball traveling in an arc travels significantly further vertically than horizontally in the same amount of time so the ball is traveling faster vertically than horizontally which in my brain means direction does matter when talking about speed... again this is probably a dumb question and I'm just missing something super basic... I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me fill the gap in my understanding. Thanks!
@davidenzler1691 Жыл бұрын
Velocity exists when you care about speed and direction. Speed is just a another tool/value that can be used when you dont need something more complex like velocity. If you want to know the distance you traveled in a straight line, then speed and time are sufficient. However, if like in your example, you're looking at the path of a ball in arc, then direction is important! But you would use velocity which is usually represented as both speed and an angle relative to some plane.
