My Son & I went to the Lake/white Dyno back in 2010. Drove from Brisbane pretty much non stop. Went in from Iron Knob. Stayed longer than the Week as we helped set up & pack up. My son rode his Triumph Daytona 650 street bike & accomplished 145mph on the salt. That event was hampered by rain as well, however it didn’t close the event. In 2011 while going back again we rolled our Ute at 2am close to Cobar. It was fully loaded with bike & camp gear but as it was secured well, everything survived except the Ute. Unfortunately never been back. Seeing the Lake again in this vid brings back great memories of the 2010 trip & the experience we had with a great bunch of like minded competitors.

Great videos mate, many years ago (back in the late 80's early 90's) Yamaha engineers requested a container of bull dust to be sent to their research center after complaints about air filters not keeping it out of engines. After exhaustive testing they concluded there was no way they could design an air filter that would keep it out of the engine while still allowing air flow.. As you said it flows like water & I believe even gets into sealed Tupperware containers,

Hi N D V, for the Rears if I was attending a GS Safari or needed maximum traction off road then I would lean toward a TKC80 although they are expensive and not long wearing. For Outback travel generally I would probably stick with a Hiendenau K60 or Motoz Tractionator. Both long wearing and usually good enough for most dry conditions. I usually fit a big block knobby (TKC80 or similar) for the front regardless of conditions. I didn’t buy the bike to Commute to work and usually only stick to the Blacktop long enough to get me to the dirt. Thanks for watching.

Hi Mick, firstly, in case you dont know, there is no fuel at Tarcoola. I did do the Borefield Road, it was in good shape (for my purpose) although there were a few bulldust patches but they were obvious and you had enough reaction time to bypass them. They arent long...maybe 5-8 metres in length. There can be some sand patches between Ooldea and Tarcoola. Fuel at Kingoonya is 24 hour by credit or debit card. Enjoy your journey. Maree now has Telstra reception. The road south from Maree is now all sealed (takes the fun out of it). Thanks for watching.

I liked the video and will subscribe. Over here in eastern New Mexico we spots a lot like your bull dust. The roads are cut down below ground level like yours were and the sugar sand dirt blows across and fills the gap. Might be 16" deep at times. Invisible at times until you hit it and go sideways. Enjoy the high mile bike. 496,000 K's on my 2006 Honda ST1300.

Hi, just a novice enquiry; can the bull dust be negotiated at certain speed just as in the sand or do both the feet need be planted on the surface like in slippery bog? Vertically challenged here.
@mongreldogproductions3 жыл бұрын
That is a very fair question. Usually you get no notice of bull dust. Sometimes, it can be a slightly different colour to the surroundings but not often. Most times you hit it at speed before you realise its bull dust. Most times it is only short distances (a few metres) or just a 'pot hole'. It is rare to get it like this and go for 100 metres or more. I would say that only the very best skilled rider would attempt it by 'standing up, leaning back and throttling on'. It is like riding in fluid. It can conceal many dangers under the surface (rocks, small children and dead animals). The bike at the end of the stretch and the injured rider is testimony to the risks of riding thru at speed. Thanks for your interest in the vid.

@mongreldogproductions3 жыл бұрын
Geez JJJ, 2,000 km on a rear tyre is not much. I’m not sure where you are but a lot of the Outback roads here in Oz are reasonably smooth gravel (not always but often) and tyre wear is good. If I was limited to travelling on Outback roads I would probably get 5,000 km to a rear before it became dodgy. I aren’t brutal with the throttle and ride the R1200 reasonably easily. We do have some roads which are covered with ‘gibbers’, a very sharp shale tyre rock, which can slash a tyre easily. Tyres are bloody expensive and so I like to run mine down to the canvas if I can lol. Traction is over rated. Hope you like the vid. Thanks for watching.
