As a 20 year Toyota owner, I can now say Hyundai is worth a look (depending on the price). Toyotas are generally well-engineered, but not bulletproof.

I'm seeing a lot of similarities with my 96 elantra. Almost the entire engine room layout is the same, except stuff like power steering, intake, and exhaust. Stuff that didn't need to be changed hasn't changed. Great video as always!

FInally!!! Mechanical review! Best review ever. I wish you did a small add-on about the 2.0 turbo engine. I bought this in 2018 to downgrade my 2007 Santa Fe with 300.000 kilometers to a short-distance family hauler. I hope the new one will be as reliable as the old, I miss the V6 though. By the way dealerships are extremely careless with the oil change panel, losing clips and re-installing it incorrectly.

12:53 That's incorrect my friend, the sensor is actually behind the bumper cover and held on by 2 thin aluminum brackets. Now that solid plastic actually protects the radar from incoming debris from the road and if u look either to the left or right of that solid plastic through the honeycomb holes, you will see the radar sensor about 5 inches behind. I hit a cone on the i95 that was capsized on the roadway and the forward collision light came on almost immediately. I checked it out and the radar itself wasn't damaged but it's flimsy bracket was and I had to staighten it in order to fix the malfunction.

What important to mention that 2018 onwards Hyundai & Kia cars are equipped with the crazy R1234YF AC gas, which is crazy expensive to refill & service + flammable in case of crash!

@@speedkar99, if so then only slightly, while it's 10% less efficient, potentially unsafe, but 10x more expensive than R134a & very profitable for DuPont and Honeywell who have patented and hold all rights to manufacturing and selling it. Mercedes-Benz withdrew from using it after the fire hazard it poses.

Hyundai’s are definitely more reliable than they used to be. Had a 2005 Elantra that’s still around today at 300,000 miles (no major repairs) and a 2013 Elantra with 80,000miles that’s doing great. They’re also very cheap to fix on the rare occasion something breaks.

I really like your reviews You're very in depth about the mechanicals on vehicles and I definitely appreciate that. However I kind of find of interesting that almost everything that you pointed out as being sort of a negative... old school, not new tech..etc are things I'm glad they are doing that way. Mechanical water pump, simple easy to fix and inexpensive to replace, old-fashioned vacuum brake booster.. good, it works it always has worked and it rarely fails, and gives better feedback to braking than electro assisted brakes . Having the PCV NOT built into the intake manifold? Why the hell would I WANT that? . Because they eventually plug up and then you've got to take the intake manifold off. VW does this crap but it's in the valve cover, and you have to replace the whole valve cover for $200, or I can go to O'Reilly and buy a $3 PCV. Everything you mentioned or sort of implied was old school and not new technology seems like a good thing to me. Again I'm not criticizing your mechanical aptitude or anything like that I think you did a fantastic job pointing out very important details of the vehicle. I just find it interesting that your take on some of these older technologies seems to be negative when in reality it should be a positive at least in my opinion. But maybe I'm just weird because I tend to keep my cars for 350,000 miles.

As always, these reviews are for people with common sense and interest in how things are made on the inside. Who needs classic reviews aka “ where is the glove box ” and “ how to use the odometer”. Great. I’m watching all of them. Btw, my 2006 Hyundai has an MPI engine with 200k and I think Hyu has chosen the path to offer older but more reliable technology, which I prefer.

I agree with the response that this is a very thorough explanation of engine and vehicle components. And I'm sure this video will help me when I put the new engine in. I am about 3/4 of the way of pulling the motor from my 2015 Sante Fe turbo. And even though we have the software knock sensor service call in (that did not work), we are wondering if Hyundai will honor the class action suite for 1000's and 1000's of their engines than have gone bad do to metal chips left in the manufacturing process and lack of oil from oil pump.

Hey speedkar99, could you do a video on basic vehicle mechanic check, fix/ repair, what each symbol mean, and how to fix it yourself. Examples: • check engine light comes on. • Someone put water/ sugar in your gas tank. • A rear windshield wiper doesn’t work. • A turn signal or light (by light I’ve included head, tail, brake, high beam, fog, low beam, caution & headlight) is out. Now how would a newly beginner mechanic that hasn’t worked on his own car yet do, fix, change/ replace, remove, drain, & repair their own vehicle. Keep up the great videos, you & ChrisFix are literally educating future mechanics (& beginner mechanics) on vehicle service DIY.

So now that the redesigned 2022 Santa Fe has a 2.5L with 8 speed, a 2.5 Turbo with 8 speed wet dual clutch, and 1.6 Turbo Hybrid & PHEV with 6 speed, which are engines that Hyundai and Kia have used in other cars for a while, which engine choice would you choose for long term engine and transmission reliability?

What a great review. Watched multiple times. Curious on recovery points on the underbody. They don't seem to include anything for emergency towing, but recovery points for pull from snow and mud is even more important, but found it nowhere. :-/ Would love if you could enlighten on that.

Hyundai are mostly reliable, but avoid this engine and the dual clutch transmissions. I wouldn't get the IVT either myself. It's probably fine, but it was designed on a shoestring budget. I'll let somebody else's money test that while I drive a proven transmission.

I believe the 2.4 was redesigned not to long ago. Ok, I see now. Yes, it wasn't a problem with the motor. Hyundai, i believe in the Alabama plant, decided to use water jets to debur the metal shavings from the parts. Well, it didnt work. So they had to go back to a more mechanical way or removing the particles.

They fixed the issue from 2018 onwards I believe. This car seems simple and easy to fix and might hold up long term but there are some places where they did cut corners. Toyota has added alot of new tech to the new rav4/Camry/Corolla platform so I'd give them some time to tell how they are holding up.

speedkar99 no they didn’t I had a 2018 Kia Optima that developed an engine rattle 2 1/2 years after I bought it. I traded it in for a Corolla almost 3 months ago. I’m sticking with Toyota for a while.

Great job as usual. Enjoy your extensive reviews like these. Toyota use established designs for decades too. There’s a good reason. No need for a vacuum pump as it’s a normally aspirated engine with plenty of vacuum available. Turbo engines need mechanical or electric vacuum pumps to provide vacuum.

That exhaust looks like the cheap steel bent pipes you can buy on the aftermarket. They’re not stainless and are extremely susceptible to corrosion, so you have to throw it away after 3-4 years in the Northeast.
