I love that you talk so calmly and clearly. No acting or trying to be entertaining. . I am 49 year old woman who is going to do her own oil for the first time. You tought me something that I had no one else to teach me. Thank you. I subscribed because of this video. You kept my interest . Thank you

I always fill the oil filter with clean oil before I install it to avoid a dry start. Of course, the amount I pour depends on the orientation of the filter. On my '98 CRV the filter sits fully horizontal so I only fill it around halfway to avoid any oil spillage. On my '05 Pilot and in this tutorial the filter is vertical so I fill it at least 3/4's full.

Hey Jim, Happy new year 2020 to ya! I just wanted to thank you so much for making this video. You really built up my confidence to do this job myself. I waited over an hour an a half at a Hyundai dealer for an oil change. I ended up leaving, called around and nobody could service me. So then I found your video. I ended up doing it myself, I had lots of trouble with the drain plug. I had to buy a breaker bar to get it off. All in all, job well done no leaks yet.

Howdy Jim. I think you should probably recommend pouring the new oil in and starting the engine before you close the cover below in order to spot a possible leak. Closing it right away will make you miss this until it's too late.

Great video. For this vehicle, if a person does not drive a lot then how often should they change their oil if they do far less than 7,000 miles in one year? Essentially, if you only drive 2,500 in seven months, then how many times per year should it be changed? Still 6 months?

Great video and job. Thank you for sharing. I agree with you on changing the oil every five thousand miles. The older cars were every three thousand miles. I would never go seven thousand miles to change my oil. I truly hope you are having a Blessed Summer so far. Jim, I had already commented on this video, lol. So I will comment again. I live in Maryland, USA.

Thank you. I get owners all the time that go by the manufacture recommendation (7,500) and there engines don't last. Changing the oil every 5,000 miles and you car will last for 200,000-300,000 miles easy

Appreciate the video, lots of great points. If I may make a suggestion, there were numerous times where the item your were describing was not in frame and its difficult to follow as a result. I can appreciate that working under a car is tough without the added pressure of filming what you are doing. Thanks.

Great Post Jim!!! Everyone Please Do not follow MANUFACTURERS Idiotic suggest to CHANGE AT 7500 or 10000 Miles. Oil and Synthetic Breaks down...period.. Do it Every 4000/4500 Miles on Full Synthetic oil. Example: @3000 miles oil is molasses with Synthetic Blend when drained.Engines will last 200,000 to 300,000 miles timing chains connecting rods will last longer. runs quieter. My Chevy 15/Equinox and 17/Traverse are super clean internally..60K and 75K mikes..I will easily hit 200,000 and more. I don’t represent any oil companies I’ve worked on cars since 12 years old.. Always change my oil til knees got destroyed at work recently.... Let’s try to keep these Computer Control engines live longer than manufacturers expected after warranty..
@toddzino58 Жыл бұрын
I know this is old, but bears a bit more explanation. Oil doesn’t break down, it gets dirty. The additives in the oil which neutralize the acidity from the combustion process wear out (TBN) and if the oil remains in engine at that point, that’s when problems occur, sludge, deposits, etc.
