Nintendo has been denying that Cranky is original DK for years unfortunately (possibly since the Mario vs DK series)? Like how Bowser's first seven kids aren't his kids anymore.

did they ever say it was specifically the original dk, or just that they took inspiration from the design? those are two very different things; but i guess we will have to see in the actual movie or promotional stuff

I don't think Miyamoto meant the DK in this film is the original, more like they redesigned modern DK to look closer to the original.

The first time I watched the first trailer on KZbin, it seemed mildly interesting. Then I saw it on an IMAX screen before another movie I went to see, and I realized that it may not be perfect, but this is definitely one I'm going to want to see on the big screen.

I am somewhat more interested in this movie after seeing this trailer (not enough to see it in theatres yet but maybe enough to not pirate it.) but yea there is something off about Mario. The Mario design looks ok though there is something off putting there as well but the voice is just wrong for that character. Maybe I’m wrong and he’ll pull it off but I’m not expecting it.

It still looks quite weird to me, but probably worth watching to a Mario fan. I hope it will be in cinemas for more than one day in the Netherlands... only showing one day in American theatres is the weirdest thing about it so far, to me.

I dunno why everyone hates Chris Pratt as Mario, like I understand why, but think about it, having a Mario in the film who is always talking like Original Mario, it would be hard to keep it up over the whole film and would get annoying. I'm not a fan of having Mario be the "stranger in a strange world" and probably a plumber from New York trying to find his way. He's existed in this universe for about 40 years and everyone watching the movie knows what the deal is, so I think it was a terrible direction to go. Also, the voices are horrible, pretty much all of them.
