After watching this video, what is your thoughts on 1/10 gold?
@ae15862 жыл бұрын
Well I have never paid ridiculous premiums for them . I found that in the run up from 1100 to 2000 I was able to find more and more at spot and slightly over - then again I always pay cash and I aggressively pursued 1/10th from spot to 10$ over . I have easily bought 100 in the last 3-4 years not all eagles and some ex jewelry but when you are getting a deal you can’t be picky
@scottvalenti2 жыл бұрын
It's almost a toss up between a 10 oz silver bar and a 1/10 oz gold coin... its not EXACTLY apples to apples... but I tend to compare premiums between the 2 classes... the difficulty comes if a specific coin or bar is "calling my name" so to speak.

Lately that’s what I’ve been slowly stacking are the Gold 1/10 oz. I just bought my first Gold Eagle. I do want to move up to the 1/4 oz every once in awhile. To pay lower premiums.
@cairpreliffechair8322 жыл бұрын
I seriously believe gold will shoot up steadily, just from inflation alone. Right now a 1/10 is $225. A 1 oz is $1800. When it gets to $2500/oz you just don't want to pay any premiums over a full ounce. $450 extra per ounce hurts, but imagine $625? No thanks I'll collect fractional now, while prices are "low".
@saltwatersaddletramp72292 жыл бұрын
What is rarely said about 1/10 ounce gold coins, is that they are very popular and most dealers will pay strongly for them. So a good bit of that extra premium can come back to you. Thanks for mentioning that!

@@Spegtacular spot on, I like getting sovereign coins but it's great when cash is tight to spot half ones, that way even though it might not be the best premium it is still something added and every bit adds to the stack.

When I started, I bought 1/10 oz pieces when I could afford them. I'd just go in and trade in my 1/10's to half and full ounces. I'd take my "change" as junk silver. Hopefully this method helps others "ladder" up to bigger gold.

I agree. If you can afford to buy 1 oz on a regular basis, that's the best way to go. If all you can afford is 1/10th oz, then that's the best way to go. If all you can afford is a silver eagle, that's the best way to go. Being consistent is key. Especially in the beginning. Getting the ball rolling by buying every so often, whether it be once every 2 weeks, once a month, or once every 2 months. I think it's better to buy a 1/10 oz coin every month rather than a 1 oz coin once a year. You'll stay more motivated if you buy regularly, rather than once a year. Odds are that most people won't end up buying the 1 oz at the end of the year. The money will be spent away on other stuff and there won't be enough for the 1 oz, and they'll end up with no savings. Better to lose some money on higher premium and build up some savings, rather than lose all the money on random spending. And of course, it's also important to set aside some money to enjoy life as well. Putting money into savings is good and important, but also treat yourself to something you enjoy every now and then.

You forgot one other reason for fractionals for the ultra-paranoid. Fractionals are easier to hide in small places. Open the seam in pants or jackets and sew them back shut. Putty them into that crack in the wall and paint them over, etc., etc,... Plus, I never thought of buying gold and silver as a way to control shopaholism. They can satiate their urge to buy yet keep the value of their money. And then some, too... $$$

I really enjoy your conversations with Brian. Good info. One thing I wish you would have covered in this video is how other 1/10th oz coins (Britannia's, Mapleleafs, etc) do in the same scenario. I just finished up a tube of 1/10th coins, with the majority of them being eagles but several other coins mixed in for variety. Last observation, I just picked up a 1/10th oz coin (either Canadian or Perth - not sure which I got yet) for 10%. The deals on 1/10th ozer's are out there if you look.

Yes, it is worth it. I thought 1/10oz gold coins for 170-190 back before March 2020 and now they are well over that at the same spot price. 1oz gold coins are only a little bit more. 1/10oz were the best investment in gold I have made. People are not going to be able to buy a full 1oz coin in the future and really now. The premiums on the smaller stuff goes up faster and many people can only trslly afford those even saving up a few months. They are the most sought after by many people now. I never bought gold coins before because gold always was expensive or perceived that way. I thought you had to get a 1oz Krugerrand because well Lethal Weapon was my only knowledge on gold coins at the time, lol.

I started buying gold and silver coins seven years ago. I think 5g bars are the best place to start on the lower end. They sit at about 315 rn for Valcami/Argor which breaks down to $63 per gram. Melt price per gram is about $58. So you only pay $25 total premium over spot for a nice little gold bar in a sealed protective case with serial number and assay. With the 1/10 oz gold coins you're paying about $215 for just over 3 grams which breaks down to about $69 per gram vs. $63 for the above aforementioned 5g bar.

I understand about having the smaller fractional pieces as not to have to sell a full ounce. But if one is having to get into their PMs for emergencies, I believe they have put the cart before the horse. Purchasing PMs before one has their other financial affairs in order is a path to disaster. IMO Getting out of debt, and having an emergency before purchasing PMs, I believe, is a better path. I do not have any fractional gold. I think that having a good mix of PMs, silver and gold, can allow for a sale, if needed, without having to have a sale of a bigger piece.
