This power setting is what I could not get past. I tried both not powering with computer and powering with computer. And I tried all the ports. I'll give it a other shot with a fresh software install.

Hi Dave... I am using this video to program an AR8360T. Hoping steps are the same with the spektrum programmer software but the safe model builder 3rd part software doesn't sound like a good idea to use. When opening the programmer software I see Dashboard and Model enabled in the task bar. I hook up the programmer cable and check the power option and connect. I am able to update the software on the receiver to 3.03 successfully but the Dashboard and Model options cannot be selected in the task bar unless the power check box to the receiver is unchecked. So effectively I cannot program the receiver. Can you help explain what I am doing wrong?

Can we connect to the AR636 receiver while is still installed on the plane and not checking off the power cable option and use the lipo battery instead? Or disconnect all the servo connections to the receiver and just plug in the USB cable?

You need to do one or the other. If everything is unplugged from the receiver you can power the receiver using the power cable checkbox in the Spektrum Programmer. Or you can power it with an external power source like a BEC, ESC, external battery pack, and that will work too. You just don’t want to do both or you could burn up the USB port on your PC or potentially damage your USB Programming Cable.

No joy for me. I plug in the USB dongle to my PC and I get the tone from the PC. The device manager shows a USB to serial comm device connected and working properly on comm port 3. BUT the programming software continues to show "no cable connected". I tried a few older device drivers for the programming cable. They all recognized the device properly in the device manager without any errors, but the software continues to show no cable connected no matter what I try. I uninstalled and reinstalled the programming software. I tried older revisions of the software. I tried all the USB ports on my PC. Nothing is working for me. I'm at a dead send here. It's a windows 10 PC. Anyone have any ideas???
