I have done the programming as you have laid out but I'm having second thoughts. I am a fairly advanced pilot but I am venturing into a jet. In the section of the flight engineers for switch selection I set it to standard as you indicated but does this have safe on all the time? I would like to have the same switch as you have indicated as all off in position one AS3X on in position two and safe and AS3X in position three. To me I think I should have loaded the safe select behavior from the Transmitter side of the Switch set up. What is your recommendation here?

Hi, Thank you for the series. I have set up a SAFE model in my AR636 receiver. I reversed the channel inside the receiver as required. Now the surfaces are deflecting in the correct direction but the SAFE is not working in the right direction. It is deflecting the surfaces opposite to as it should do. I have rechecked the receiver orientation. Can you please suggest what else should I check? Thanks again:)

Great series Dave! Do you know if you can use the SAFE Model Builder to turn on SAFE on E-flite models that don't come with it and have the AR636 receivers like the T-28 1.2m? I wasn't sure if those receivers were locked such that SAFE couldn't be turned on. Also, can you use the SAFE Model Builder to program the new AR636B stock receivers that recently came out?

Steve Clough yes, and yes. With the models that don’t have SAFE already, as long as you can register the receiver and get it to register in the Spektrum Programmer it can be reprogrammed with SAFE. On all my Bind N Fly models, for example, I set up a third flight mode with AS3X turned off, and I set up a Panic Button. One thing to keep in mind is if you set up SAFE on a plane that doesn’t already have it, you will need to tune the attitude adjustments.

Great video series! If I want to make the plane more responsive in SAFE mode I'm assuming that I increase Bank Angle limits, though if the flight mode specifies Self-Leveling do the BA limits have any impact, or do I adjust or lower the values for Heading Gains for that Flight Mode?

dcraven67 the bank angle limits still have an effect in self leveling. Self leveling just means that when you let everything go the plane will fly straight and level. The bank angle limited are what tell it how far to bank or pitch when you move the stick to full stops.

@@TheRCAirMarshall Thank you for explaining it. What effect does changing the Heading Gain have if self leveling is checked for that flight mode?

Heading gain will keep the plane heading in one direction until you move the sticks and then it cancels out. Some folks like to use it to kinda cheater mode high alpha and knife edge passes. I honestly don’t use it myself.

When I have SAFE enable on flight mode 1, the SAFE gain for pith is too low. my elevator barely moves up when I do up elevator, I do not think the plane will take off. is there a way to change the SAFE gains? in my transmitter (radio) when using forward programming (on a different receiver) there is an option for modifying the SAFE gains, forward programming does not work for the AR636A, and I do not see that option of adjusting the SAFE gains in the SAFE model builder, any ideas?

Late in the video you state that selecting 1.xx it brings SAFE over to version 1. Are you sure about that? I believe it actually removes SAFE but gives you access to more wing and tail types. Then once those features are selected, you need to go back to 2.xx to get SAFE back.

WAM 74 what you said is exactly how I meant to say it. If it didn’t come out that way, I do apologize. That process is a bit confusing, but necessary if you’re trying to add SAFE to a more complex wing layout than your standard ailerons, elevator, rudder.

No problem. I think you might not have stated it like that at 6:30...but our comments might help others. It's great you did this series. I've been trying to get someone over on RCG to do just this. I've done over a dozen conversions now, so am fairly well up to speed. But no expert. Still, I'll chime in again in later vids if I come across anything worth discussing.

Hello. I'm using an ar636B from an Eflite plane. What direction should i point the AR636B in the program for the Avanti S witch i'm getting soon? Toward tail or nose? Or do you have the exsact settings from your Avanti S you could send me to install on my new Avanti S? Great tutorial sir:)

I believe my AR636 is mounted with the pins facing forward and the label up. You should never go off my settings though. Everything should be verified. You can install the receiver whatever way fits for your installation. This series will help you get it right. 👍 The idea behind this series is that you aren’t limited by what myself or anyone else (including Horizon Hobbies) does in their plane. You can tailor the AR636 to do anything you can think of.

Marshall I did all the steps but for some reason when I got to the calibration part it didn't ask me to calibrate it, I set it up the way you show us here with the exception of the calibration it's that normal? By the way it was an ar636 from the clip wing and I'm planning on placing it on the f-27 evolution. Please I need your help!!!

Silvia Villavicencio if the receiver was already running a version of the 2.xx firmware and all you did was upgrade it to 2.30 it will retain its calibration from the factory. It should work no problem. If you want to do your own calibration, you can load the 1.43 firmware into the receiver, then reflash it with 2.30 and it will ask you to calibrate again. When you do that you will lose all the settings so make sure you’ve saved your profile first! Hope that helps!

Hi. I am currently flying a Blade 230S V2 heli (which I bought as BNF) with a dx6e transmitter, with settings pretty much as per the Blade manual. The heli comes with an AR636B receiver. I would love to know if I can do any forward programming to have SAFE on in normal mode and OFF in flight mode1 and flight mode 2. Possible?? Hope you can help. thank you.

Unfortunately the AR636B does not support forward programming at all. It may be possible using the Spektrum Programmer software and a program cable, but I am not familiar with helicopter programming. Anything I offer in terms of advice may do more harm than good.

Michael Rajca that’s all it is. Inside the receiver think of it like this... There are three different sets of settings. Each one selectable by a switch. Don’t get too wrapped up around the name flight mode. It’s just a name.

I would not use this software on those receivers. You should use your transmitter forward programming.
