England's soul singing gift to Rock n' soul. Steve Winwood was only 17 years old when The Spencer Davis Group begged the youngster to join the Band back in 1966. The rest is History.

Great song. It's hard to believe that Steve Winwood was just a teenager when he joined the Spencer Davis Group. His voice would later become one of the most recognizable in all of rock.

Most people do not know that on his solo album, "Roll With It," he sang, and played every instrument on every track. R&R HOF in 2004 with :Traffic." I am 74 and Steve as that 15 year old , then "Traffic" and many collaborations, especially with Eric Clapton, has been a major element in my life. His WIKI article is amazing.

I am now 75 years old, yet this performance is one I can summon up anytime to remind me of real R & R. From here, Steve only got better, but it did not take much to be one of the best. He has shined through everyone with whom he has played. He is a reliable foundation of classic rock music. NOTE: Steve is only a couple years younger than I am. I heard him when we were for all practical purposes, contemporaries.

OMG!!! I am so excited. 2 reactions in 1 day. Thanks!! Well as you can probably tell I like vocals with passion. Steve Winwood's voice here is fantastic! He was only 17 at the time....and then Leon Stubbs on "Bernadette"....his voice emanated such strong emotions in that song. So I guess that's why I chose these songs, and Neil Diamond, just because he's a legend and that song really resonates with me. That was an awesome treat. Thanks

Very much a real feel good track. I couldn't really tell you exactly how long ago that this was initially released but way before I was born. The song has been used in quite a few movies including the 2004 version of Flight of the Phoenix. The Spencer Davis Group also consisted of Steve Winwood (Higher love and Valerie).

Their previous single had been a flop and they were under pressure for another hit. Their manager locked them in a rehearsal studio at 11 in the morning. About 11:30 they got the first riffs. By noon they had written the whole song, arranged it, and practiced it. Then they left for lunch. When their manager got back he blew up that they weren't there and found then in the corner cafe. He started screaming and they told him they had it covered. They went back and played it for him once. They played it at a club date that night and recorded it the next day.

Enjoyed watching your initial puzzlement, and the change in you as it moved along.Try an even earlier number [1960]from an album, for Me,to treasure,[TITLED,The two of US,cd has available for some time, can be entire CD can heard on youtube] which,as you said, cheered you up,same thing for ME here," BABY,YOU'VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES"by BROOK BENTON& DINAH WASHINGTON,which, any other duet, would stop, and start again,Benton has obviously taken Her lines,She actually pulls Him,and says, BABY YOURE IN MY SPOT AGAIN,closely listened to,and felt, apart from superb soulful singers, additional joy,is first, both are suppressing laughter, and WHEN did He first sing Her lines?
