For never running a zero turn or a stand on, he kept that mower surprisingly straight.
@jeffgootjes84182 жыл бұрын
The hardest ones to learn on were the pistol grip walkbehinds when they first had hydros. I would always tell new guys to let go if you get in trouble and OPC will shut off the mower. There were always some guys that just couldn’t let go or thought they could over power the mower. Had a guy one time somehow got the mower doing a tight circle really fast inside our shop. He held on until his whole body was in the air straight as an arrow. We’re yelling “let go!” After a few turns like that he let go and flew into the power washer. The mower sputtered to a stop. 😂

To be honest the value your bringing me as the viewer on your training method is valuable. I like how you did let him drive the mower on the first day. I feel like when i see landscaping owners/operators with a helper around me. The helper does nothing but weed-eat and blow. It’s sad, and they complain about how nobody wants to work. 🙄 well no sh**

Hi Tanner problem for me is I'm a woman with a riding lawn mower. I offer when somebody's around and I'm paying to help me to teach them how to drive it but they run to the self-propelled push mower. I don't know why but when I do get somebody on the mower male they turn the key press the gas and off they go without any instruction. When I try to instruct him and tell them you have to lift the blade on this mower to back up otherwise stalls they don't listen. So I stand aside and I watch them stall and stall install and stall. It's very frustrating because men do not want to learn from women! Silly them. So at the end of the day I pay them daily and they want to know why I don't ask them back. The lack of respect they show for women is enough to put me off them and I have to find somebody else and it's exhausting. So now I have one question before I hire them how do you get along with your mother? If they snarl they don't get the job. Because then you don't get along with your mother after they're grown up will never be good around women and learning. I'm 73 so I got a lot of experience here. the other thing about new employees is sometimes they walk off with your stuff. And that's a whole another type of distrust employees instill in everyday employers. Especially ones who have fixed incomes and cannot afford to keep replacing their hunted down treasures to work in the yard. So learn a few things like respect a woman if she's your boss and she wants to show you how to do something she has more experience in you!

I have a question. How do you keep from ripping the lawn with the deck rollers? I know and understand the 3 point turn, but does that solve the problem?
@jonathanfisher37532 жыл бұрын
Yes it helps a lot
@SpencerLawnCare2 жыл бұрын
Those are anti scalp wheels and the 3 point turn does help as well
@lawnguy32672 жыл бұрын
If you're ripping lawns with the anti-scalp wheels you're mowing too low. I removed them all from my mowers. Part of being a professional landscaper is knowing how to float a mower deck.
@robertmanderfield95802 жыл бұрын
@@lawnguy3267 I'm not a professional
@jeffgootjes84182 жыл бұрын
The anti scalp rollers are well off the ground. If they’re touching and tearing up the ground you either have them adjusted too low (if they’re adjustable) or the deck is set too low at which point you should remove them or raise the deck.

I like what I'm seein' in terms of the way you folks are training your new hire. Two of the main principals I tried to employ when training a new worker were patience and positive reinforcement, condescension and mockery were not tolerated from anybody. Also, while I believe there's no substitute for experience I also believe that people are born with certain aptitudes and abilities. Like my youngest son, he was absolutely born with an innate understanding and ability for operating heavy equipment. From high production, as in a quarry or mine environment to the finesse work of landscape construction he has "magic hands" heh, heh. When someone came along with the desire to learn and the willingness to put the work in I would do my best to find work for them and keep them around. I believe that an attitude like that is a key factor in a good employee. Also, at this point I need to ask, does/did TQ enjoy that kids' game "Pick Up Stix"? Hahahaaa!
