FTR, I am a retired, professional music critic, with 45+ years experience. Nothing has changed my thoughts, on what my uncle told me - the Philippines did and still does have more talent than any other country. Here is an elite, Apex level, international caliber, singer right here. Morissette Amon is one of the top 10 to 12 Pop singers of all time. I saw Whitney, Celine, Mariah, live, in their Apex level singing eras - Morissette is their class.

As a demonstration of pure singing ability, I would put this performance up against anything I've ever heard in my life. Among many other things, her seamless transitions into whistle register are amazing. The fact that she did this live, sitting down in a bus, just adds to the incredible nature of this performance.

for me it's not just the whistle.. the belts are layered with different colors of emotions and her humming has little riffs that is totally difficult.. Her phrasing is so calculated and her falsettos at "at magHIHINtay" for the first and second chorus are so emotional and are really hitting different. her four long notes from the bridge to the last chorus are massively insane.. This woman is from the future, I believe. She learned a lot that none of us in the present has learned yet.

You are very true as to morissettes whistle & she did it after a sound progression hitting that b4 mixed for quite a number of time & hit that whistle after. Whereas mariah, She does the whistle & her background singers are doing the melody. Morissette whistle is so delicious to listen because her whistle has a tone as compare to a typical whistle. I mean, anybody can appreciate what she did w/ this performance. But, because of your knowledge in music coach & your explanation makes this more understandable. ❤❤❤

I'd like to request that you react to an acapella version of Rise Up, of Morissette and a group called 3rd Avenue as backup singers. The Wish Bus version of Rise Up is great...but the acapella version is "slightly" different, as you would think it would be. To be honest, it is my favorite version because it's a bit more uplifting and her vocals shine even more!! (no whistle but just as beautiful) Please give it a listen. I'll be hoping and waiting!! Thank you so much, Coach Spencer, for featuring this Morissette performing "Akin Ka Na Lang" on your channel. Thank you for pointing out the differences between Morissette and Mariah Carey. Other reactors are saying that Mori is the "Filipina Mariah Carey" just because both of them do whistle notes, but for me, they sound differently, and you have explained here the differences, such as Mariah is more breathy and leans more to falsetto, whereas Mori is more on the mixed register, also Mori's whistle is more connected. Morissette is Morissette, and Mariah is Mariah, two different artists. You were also able to explain the so-called "open throat" technique in belting that Mori does, as opposed to other singers who constrict their throats when belting, which result to more shrilly sound and looks strained, whereas Mori looks relaxed in her belting, that's why her belts are rich, full, rounded and pleasing to the ears. Well done, Coach. I hope you will continue to react to and analyze more Morissette performances. I suggest the following: "Never Enough", "Secret Love Song" and other Tagalog songs "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw", "Naririnig Mo Ba", all these in the Wish Bus. Please check also her Bruno Mars Evolution Medley. And just recently, she performed in David Foster Concert with "Never Enough" and the "Bodyguard Medley" (Whitney Houston). Note that the vowel sound “æ”, commonly used by Americans, is almost non-existent in the Filipino language therefore when we pronounce “a” sounds in Tagalog words like “lang”, we use “ɑ” instead.

There are a lot of good singers in the world. But Morisette is a great singer. She has a lot of Arsenal (as far as her voice is concerned) and she doesn't overuse them when singing. I believe that's what separates her from other good singers.
