I'm a diehard angry death metal fan. If you were to ask anyone one thing about me, it would be the screaming angry vocals of the music I'm always blaring. This... This stopped me dead in my tracks. I don't know what it is, if it's the endearing lyrics, the nostalgic feel of the steampunk animatronics or the breathtaking harmony of it all... This song is beyond perfection, hitting on every head available. It makes me smile and want to cry all at the same time. It has to be one of the best feel good songs next to Brown Eyed Girl I've come across in all of my 38 years on this planet... Bravo, Stem Powered Giraffe!!! Please never stop!!! I have watched this video 30 times in the past week. I cannot take my eyes off of their movements. The song is achingly poignant. With the small touches and the harmonization, this song is one of the best constructed songs I have ever heard. I am not young, and am a fan of all music, from classical, jazz, bluegrass, classic rock, hiphop, alternative rock, heavy metal...the point is, this song is not only a gorgeous example of mathematical beauty in songwriting, but also makes use of chords that at once sound nostalgic, even having never heard the song before. The layered themes, among them loneliness and love, are at the heart of humanity. This song is one of the best-written songs out there, and I would argue that it has a place in the top 1000 songs by peoplekind... This is Voyager-Golden-Records quality...in other words: Shoot it into space as an example of the best of what makes us human. I am not being hyperbolic; it's that good. Thank you for this incredible contribution, SPG. If this is your only legacy, (and I suspect it shall not be) rest knowing it's a job well-done.

i dont think people realize how talented these guys are. humans are naturally very expressive and fluid in all of our motions. its actually a bitch and a half to deliberately act very stiff, even then you'll be incredibly expressive in other ways. so actually managing to pull off moving like a machine, deliberately making your body less fluid and expressive requires both allot of talent and allot of practice. i for one really appreciate the amount of effort they put into something most people wont even realize the difficulty of.

If I could get serious here for a moment. There was a long while that I couldn't listen to this song because I associated it with my ex girlfriend. I had gotten her into SPG and this song sort of became "our song". After we broke up, I became aware of some very toxic things about our relationship. It sucked because I loved this song long before I loved her. But, I just couldn't bring myself to listen to it. This is the first time I've listened to it in forever. It's just as beautiful as I remember. I don't cry when I hear it anymore. I can smile again and sing along. TL;DR healing is possible. It just takes time.

My fiancé played this song over the radio during an innocuous drive to the store, and I simply fell in love with it. I can't put into words how it makes me feel, but I hear it and think of her, and I think of sitting in the passenger seat of her mom's car, snow still blanketing the ground from a gnarly snowstorm early Feburary, hand warmers in my pockets and joking and smiling with her. ... we weren't engaged then. I'm so glad she popped the question, even if it wasn't entirely a surprise-- she was too anxious about messing it up to keep it a secret. We were 3 years long distance and I practically ran away from home to be with her the second i could do so legally... I really, truly do love her... moreso than I could ever put into words... Spotify DJ served this song to me seemingly at random, and it struck a chord with me. Coming here, I see thousands of comments from thousands of people over more then 10 years, nearly all of them expressing how they were touched by this specific song. Some people talking about weddings, feeling something new about themselves, being inspired to tell that someone, lamenting the loss of a loved one and more. I'm not sure if when this was being written, you could imagine how far and wide it would go. I don't know how much success SPG has enjoyed or how much was a result of this song, but some of that success has to be in touching that many people. I will be checking out the links and trying to learn more, but this specific song stands out and is worthy of celebration. Thank you for having made it.

@calebizmirian25868 жыл бұрын
This song has DRIVEN me INSANE looking for hidden meaning... I'm convinced that there's one lyric in the song that hints at so much more. Think about it, there are only a few complex words in the song--in fact, every word in the song is one or two syllables except for the titular "honeybee" and one other word: "turpentine." I didn't know what it was, so I looked it up. Turpentine is an essential oil extracted from tree sap. Now, it's commonly used as a paint thinner and a paint remover, but alternative medicine and various folk tales still (falsely) claim that it's a cure for all sorts of made-up problems. So, it's not unthinkable for someone to drink the stuff. Now bear with me; turpentine, when ingested, works as poison. It causes hydrocarbon poisoning that leads to inflammation of the lungs and heart arrhythmias. Think of it as a slightly less potent form of bleach. A single tablespoon can be fatal to a child. Anyway, pay close attention to the lyric: "Oh, turpentine, erase me whole, 'cause I don't want to live my life alone." If you take this line literally, the singer is talking about suicide. And the WHOLE song, Rabbit's tone feels remorseful and even a little annoyed at the subject... like a "why did you make me love you so much" kind of deal, right? I think Rabbit is singing to a lost loved one, and admitting that he doesn't have the will to go on. Why else would they use such a specific word as turpentine? There's no reason! "your eyes still haunt me" ...literally. From the grave. "set me free" from this existence. "I find myself without you" because Rabbit's loved one is gone. "I'm rather crazy" -- suicidal tendencies are often referred to as a mental illness. "now you have to go" -- and there's nothing I can do about it, so I might as well follow you. Now, this is just my personal interpretation, and the band even said in a 2012 interview that the words in the song are secondary to the tune, but this adds so much more depth and meaning to the song in my opinion. And works of art belong partially to their audience, so I'll stick to my interpretation... it explains why the song leaves me feeling so sad each time I listen... which I can't stop myself from doing constantly...

Yea it is about putting someone on a pedestal and loving them so much and them leaving you. When somebody leaves you, you are kind of in a state where you don't know how you will live without them and wish you were dead. But hey, I think that way over minuscule things like having work the next day. I don't really wish I was dead, Its just something someone says. So yea, I don't believe the song is entirely about suicide, but it does have the theme of not wanting to exist without the other person who left you. Edit: and yes I know this comment is 1 year late.

Looking back, I never realized how much beauty there is in this video. I can't begin to describe how the vocalist is so calm and the movements, wow... So much control. Just... Wow...

I follow a Spotify playlist from my ex that she made for me when we were together. We broke up about 2 years ago. It was a rocky relationship and didn't end well at all, but she never edited or deleted the playlist. I noticed this was a new song she recently added to it. It feels like the perfect goodbye. I don't know if you'll ever see this, likely not, but hey, just in case... thank you. I'm happy for you, I truly am. Goodbye, good luck, and thank you for everything

Dear SPG and Crew, I am getting married this October 22nd and just wanted to say that this will be our first dance my husband and I share together. It all started back in January of 2012 when I arrived late to my psych class at college (after working the grave shift at a local restaurant). The only available seat was next to this young gent who fancied “steampunk”. Over the course of that year, he introduced me to steampunk and we grew upon shared conversations from that and Doctor Who. Four years later, he proposed to me where we had our first date by the stone fountain as it rained. Needless to say it was a Notebook moment from there on out. Being born in San Diego, it gives me great pride to boast about you beautiful people on the East Coast. Thank you Bunny, Spine, Hatchworth and crew for changing our lives for the better through the power of music, love and understanding. We wish you could perform at our Wedding, but we understand you are busy making the world a better place, one location at a time. Best of luck, Sean and Natalie Thompson.

This song comes to mind every now and again and I have to come back to give it a listen. The harmonies are so peaceful and endearingly gloomy at the same time.

this song makes me want to fall in love - that slow, intense burn that only gets stronger with each adorable quirk you discover in them, their flaws you fully embrace, their insecurities you work to eliminate. you wake up in the morning not dreading the day, but excited to exist for another period in their presence. things are right - they're unlike anything you've experienced, and this is all you want. and after time - gradually, very gradually - you notice them slipping away from you. its subtle at first: they don't hold your hand as often, they don't joke around and tease you like before; you no longer fall asleep cuddling together, date nights become sparse, communication is minimal. but you're too entranced in what you had and what you were to believe its happening, things will get better you know they will. and then the end comes. they're finished with this, with you, with everything you guys were. you've been so mesmerized with being in love with them that you didn't realize they've been falling out of love with you. and now you're here, alone and empty, nothing to make you smile. part of you wants to foster the feelings and joy you had when things were good - still admire their smile, the tiny mannerisms that enchanted you, just remember who you fell in love with. but you know that's just denial, and its over, and its time to move on, but you just cant. this song makes me want to fall in love then be completely broken by it.

Sometimes, it TRULY is a Forever Thing. Unfortunately, more often than not, it turns out to be True for only One of you. I lost my beloved in a drowning accident 4 days before Christmas 2008. Now, every day that I'm without him, seems like Forever. He used to joke that we were One Soul in 2 bodies... I guess, I've found some sort of comfort in the notion that he's not really gone, we merely consolidated.
