Yes, you can do some fancy combos with your E but you can also have one barrel behind you for escape when ganked and keep spamming Q with Grasp of the Undying and get the same result. Gangplank, during the laning phase is one of the most braindead champs in the game.

i agree mostly with hash about keeping someone whos already fed toplane for as long as possible, for the simple fact that as long as the other lanes are able to do ok winning is more likely. If they end up even or losing then odds are they woudlnt have won the game ANYWAY, as opposed to playing defensivly (which i do, cus im satan and a teemo one trick) which lets him roam and snowball his lanes or stop yours from snowballing. it comes down to the lesser of two evils would you rather have a toplane that feds but keeps it contained to his own lane making it a 4v4, or would you rather have the fed toplaner roaming into your lanes and stopping your snowball or making his other lanes snowball. both of these scenarios have fed a lane but only ONE of them offers to keep the fed laner in his own lane letting someone else attempt to carry.

So, after Tobias Fate said he doesn't play GP with Grasp, I pulled him up on U.GG to look at his past games and here's what I found: From his last 20 games at the time of writing this (Dec. 4 - Nov. 29), he plays 11 games of Grasp GP, 8 games of Fleet Footwork GP, and 1 game of Aery GP. From this, we can do the math and find out that over half of Tobias' latest games have been Grasp. And my favorite thing is that if you find this particular game in this video (He was 18/4, it was on Dec 2, and lasted 31:42), it's sandwiched between two games of him on Grasp GP. Love it.

Gp has a higher mechanical skill ceiling than aatrox but aatrox's ceiling is very close and takes way better decision making than GP yes GP if he misses his barrel combo is irrelevant af but GP's main dmg ability (barrel) is a very high range and can go over terrain meanwhile aatrox is a bruiser so he has to be relatively close to his opponents so if he misses his combo just like GP misses his he can not back off and re engage without using flash or getting help from his teammates. Also not to mention that GP also takes a little bit less mechanical skill in general because his W is a get out of jail free card that means you dont need to focus a lot of on dodging 90% of the time when aatrox gets morg Q hes dead no matter what and is useless.

Hm, GP doesn't have to build glass cannon - with 2 defensive items, you can function as DPS that doesn't have to be hit or miss a barrel combo. Of course, this won't work only vs currently OP, hypermobile or stunbot teams. Tank itemisation is also bad at the moment, but this was a valid way to play him some seasons ago. Aatrox feels idk - slow? Boring kit, compensated with high damage numbers, if he actually manages to land full combo on you. He is only played, if he is OP after buffs or something.

@@azraksash few chars actually do match up to lee, yasuo, etc, but he IS picked more than zed who is also fairly popular, and he's the 4th most popular toplaner in the game (his competition is all busted champs right now, so it's no wonder they have higher pickrates) this is all according to lolalytics at a plat level since i'm on mobile and dunno how to change it on mobile specifically, but there's also the fact that he's the 22nd most popular champion in the game despite having one of the game's 13th lowest winrates, i'd say overall he's pretty popular for a champion stuck in one lane, i'd say given that lee (33% pickrate), kai'sa (28.8%), lucian (24.3%), thresh (24.2%), caitlyn (23.7%), senna (22.1%), yasuo (21.4%) and ryze (20.5%) are the only champions even above 20%, they're kinda in a league of their own and can't really be compared to, but at least half of these champions if not most are hella busted as well as being fairly fun so it only makes sense, but i feel like a contributing factor is that they either don't have to share their roles (adc is played only by adcs, rarely yas/heim/jungle is only played by junglers, etc) when toplane is being invaded by mid and adc champs right now anyway and thus has much greater lane diversity leading to lower pickrates of native toplaners sorry for the blog, just an explanation for the numbers
