I think the biggest insult to injury in the "Riven mains have the lowest Winrate when not playing their main" it's when he punctuates "including Singed" because 1 Singed it's kind of infamous for having a low skill floor 2 Singed plays so differently to any other champion that moving from mainning Singed to any other character you can't translate any mechanic or skills except map awereness split pushing wave control and warding which you SHOULD have in any other champion top.

90% of the time I die to a riven, is because they use flash, W, Q, AA, R all in the same animation and deal like 600 damage in a split second that can't be dodged unless you flash proactively - but then you've just wasted your flash and then she gets to keep hers. Either way you lose

I picked up Riven just because I felt like it around last year. What I noticed is how insanely easy it is to just level 1 all in and win the lane in 30 seconds. I dont remember the exact math but i believe that it was 600% AD if you do your "fast combo" (cancelling the auto Q 3 times and then one last auto). Taking ignite, this killed almost everyone I was fighting if they didnt flash. They either went back to baes or had to lose cs for a minute. The E is the kicker though. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the tools Riven could possibly use including items, can be cancelled with the E. During that E animation she can hit you with literally anything she has. This might not sound impressive but after picking her up I like, completely steamrolled through silver. Like s5 to s1 in a couple days. And thats the elo where her win rate was the second lowest. All I learned was those couple things. E cancelling into everything and how to level 1 and 2 all in. The reason it should impress you is because im actually awful at this game. I'm in gold after my 3rd time demoting down from it. There are few things she cant do anything about but theyre the shit that basically nobody can do anything about, like maokai, kennen, fiora, stuff like that. Besides auto losing to most ranged characters and having to be close to the opponent, and having a kind of worse late game (because mages just auto win onto you), theres honestly no weaknesses to this champion.

Well you said it yourself, in silver they will let you triple Q into their face but the higher you climb the more it will get you killed. A tryndamere with half a rage bar and ignite will put you in the ground at level 1. So does a decent Jax Renekton or Darius.

Also, I think Riven needs some sort of overhaul. She's a fun champion but she has a lot of parts in her kit you cannot react to unless you know exactly what tells a Riven combo has. EVEN THEN, her mobility gets the combo off most of the time anyway. They need to change how her animations work (removing the canceling) which would probably allow buffs to be added to her abilities without ruining the game.

Ichael i think at the moment riven is only strong because of stupidly overstat kit. If you removed her animation cancels right now she’d become dogshit and clunky. They should just lower her damage and e shield. When the nerfed her e she was more or less ok for a time. Also her mobility won’t let her get off a combo if you read the tells. Or not an actual animation cancel combo as they require certain abilities to be used in succession. I used to main her, but got bored because of how much they fucking buffed her too a point where I can waste half of my abilities, not cancel a few animations and then still get a kill on the enemy laner because of how strong she is. She used too only be strong when the enemy laner fucks up but now they’ve just buffedher to a point that she can waste a third of her damage for mobility. TLDR; riven is broken and all they need to do is remove stats. She was much closer to being balanced with the e changes and I don’t know why riot reverted them. The animation cancels make the character smooth and viable It would be like playing zed but with a 1 second delay between each of your abilities.

She was pretty underpowered for many years. These days there’s like 30 challenger Riven mains, but back before they buffed her damage and e shield she was a champion that only had maybe 3 or 3 master tier players in it. Against a competent player Riven should still struggle, but she’s very unforgiving into someone that’s easy to abuse because they just don’t know how to play against the champion. Just nerf her damage a little and if that’s somehow not enough just nerf her e shield. Fixed.

The notion that a character in league of legends is hard to use because there are different combos that you have to memorize, and pull them off in different situations is just hilarious. Coming from fighting games, practicing your muscle memory to not drop combos is like step 1 of the baby basics. Step 2 would be to understand in which situations to use them. The idea of lee sin and riven players padding themselves in the back for doing the absolute basics of the basics seriously cringes the fuck out of me. League of legends is not a physically demanding game, like, at all. If you think of yourself a good player because you had to go to training for like, 30 minutes, to practice Riven animation cancels, or ward hopping with lee sin, you are a symptom of Riot's cancerous balance philosophy.

Been saying this for years. FGs are my favorite genre and I've played at local tournies before for USF4 back in the day so LoL is like bottom of the barrel in terms of input or mechanics. When I started playing LoL I picked up Lee Sin and Draven and my friend was like naaaah dude don't play them they are sooooo hard you don't have the mechanics. I fed because I didn't know the game and then a week later I was hitting insecs with zero effort and my friend said it looks like imr scripting. Nothing in LoL is hard or mechanically intensive. I think people who say that don't really play other genres of games. Compared to playing an FG at any decent level LoL is like a point and click adventure game. The only reason I'm not great is because my decision making and map awareness are shit and of course I always want to do flashy plays like some idiot. Mechanically though you could play the game while taking a nap. Azir is the closest thing to "hard" in this game. Riven is piss easy. You can just bind an animation cancel to fucking spacebar and then you're set.

The problem with Animation cancelling champs like Riven is that they have too much damage with each individual ability/auto attack, Riven gets an absurdly strong sheen effect for each ability she casts on top of the cc of her 3rd Q and W, a Shield that while brief, can block an insane amount of damage in the alloted time and she has a buff to her auto auto attack range and damage, which even further increases all the aforementioned abilities and gives her access to an execution move. Now let's take Kha'zix, another Champion that utilizes Animation cancelling to maximize his burst. He relies on hunting down champions that stray too far away from their allies. He is primarily an exceptional dueler and assassin due to his amazing single target damage from his Q that is easily repeatable thanks to it's low cooldown and it's isolation bonus. But he has no form of cc besides his slows from his passive and W and he just falls apart should he have to face two or more champions at the same time. Riven shares none of Kha'zix's weakness while being just as good at killing champions as Kha'zix is and better than Kha'zix at fighting large groups of enemies. Her abilities have low cooldown, two of them provide her mobility that is beaten out only by a select few champions such as Kassadin, she has copious amounts of CC and tankiness to boot and yet she still has the added benefit of Animation Cancelling. Aatrox's rework had a lot of criticism due to having a kit very similiar to that of Riven, but Aatrox right now is what Riven should've been. He has the added benefit of amazing team fight sustainability, but he lacks several things that overloads Riven's kit: Aatrox's Q only ccs upon landing it with the sweet spot, he cannot animation cancel, his W while it slows, is primarily used to set up the 2nd or third Q hit and his E is used to adjust the Q to hit the opponent or land the sweet spot. Outside of the speed boost from his ultimate and the bare minimum mobility his E provides, there is no way he can escape the battle especially considering the fact that there are very few champions that don't have dashes, blinks or etc. and most of the time, all of them have flash. Point is, Aatrox's schtick is that he has amazing sustain to stay in the fight while dishing out a lot of AoE damage, he was made to be a team fighter above all else. Riven on the other hand is not only a frighteningly potent team fighter, she is also a good dueler, she's very mobile and has an insane amount of burst on her that she can also repeat after about 7-9 secs. If I were to change Riven, I would remove her ability to stack her passive three times and reduce it to one but increase the damage, while reducing the damage from her Q and W. Her ult would be largely unchanged, but her Wind Slash would no longer be an execution move, instead it deals a medium amount of damage, only barely stronger than a 2nd Aatrox Q, but if she has her passive ready, it would deal increased damage at the cost of the passive. The animation cancelling can stay, but has to be used sparingly to capitalize on the passive or else the overall damage she would be able to dish out would be decreased due to missed passive opportunities.

That’s impossible, because it’s totally fucking true. At least anecdotally. Never seen Boxbox or Adrian Riven on a character that isn’t Riven or Fiora. Or Yasuo. Add Yasuo to the list of “Champs Riven Mains play when they can’t play Riven”. I honestly don’t hate Riven and her mains that much. I used to actually love playing against her as my main Shen, back when it was a skill matchup, because the lane was so dynamic and abilities spent in err would give the other a fair opportunity to punish. Now? It’s just like all of Shen’s matchups nowadays: you must outplay and counter every move they make to do decent in lane. Unfortunately, that’s now impossible against Riven. I just want to play a lane where both of us got a chance to body the other :(
