High school nights in the ’80s were “Video Music Box” followed by “Yan Can Cook.” Martin is an absolute master! Peace.

that's my grandma TJ. No one ever learned her spices. so sadly when she passed away thr restaurant was closed and sold. It was later turned into a cupcake shop very nice people good desserts. But sadly that owner was killed In a robbery attempt in Oakland. She tried to hold onto her purse and they drove off in a car with her.

We're so honored to have had your grandma on the show! The Gingerbread House was an institution and remains in so many of our memories. Although Jen the owner of Angel Cakes has also passed on, the bakery is still open.

My husband and I were both born and raised in New Jersey. When Mike got out of the Army, he took a job with an oil field helicopter company and we moved to Cajun Country in Louisiana--Lafayette. We have gotten to love the flavors of this area and I make gumbo and Mike makes jambalaya. We eat crawfish etouffee' and crawfish corn bread and I make some other dishes that we love. The seasonings here are special and make the food so flavorful. We don't so much like Creole food as we are plain people and your guest was correct in telling you it's the seasoning that make the food so delicious. I enjoyed this video very much and I enjoy watching you perform and cook. You're just too cute for words. :D

Very excited about this episode! I was a huge fan of Yan Can Cook back in the day, and had a heap of episodes on VHS. This is one that I've never seen before! So happy!

My grandpa loves spicy food and everyone in my family enjoy that too they put a lot of spicy things in the dumplings, noodles and others. It was amazing to see Martin Yan learns some recipes and this year I learned some much experiences from him. Thank you for sharing this episode he was so clever!!

8:19 I still haven't gotten that technique right - single whack halfway breaks down the ginger (or garlic in a different episode)
@XplosiveAction3 жыл бұрын
You want to slice the ginger pretty thick ans also make sure you’re slicing them into discs, so that the membrane breaks up when you wack it. A heavy cleaver also helps bc of momentum

It seems to me like he is just the type to be in a hurry, and she seems camera-shy. I think he was just trying to keep the show running smoothly.

its a fast paced show with not a lot of time. Making a jambalaya in 5 mins is not natural so he had to move things along. He does it with all his guests.

Would you believe a TV script set in 2372 has a New Orleans restaurateur grousing, "Some people don't know the difference between 'cajun' and 'creole'." ?

You want spice go Indian, trust me. You gotta really love eating spices though...You wanna actually taste what you're eating, go Szechuan, Cajun, whatever else.

martin was kind of making me a little bit uncomfortable in this one lmfao like damn he wouldn't even let her tell a story about her own grandma without interrupting her and trying to cuddle her i'm generally a fan of his but this was rather awkward lol

I completely understand this being from 1988, and very much support you putting it online. I must say however, that what may be relatively recent history can still be completely WILD. While this would be unacceptable today, it's important to realize what things were like not long ago. Still jealous of those knife skills though.

Why does he even bother to have guests on the show when he only gives them a few minutes at the end of the show which he spends talking over them? Also, the camera people on this show are terrible.
@user-tz9jh6pv2j2 жыл бұрын
I agree. That's my biggest problem with Martin. I love his show and he's entertaining, but he has almost zero people skills and zero rapport with guests. I genuinely want to hear what the guests have to say... in the previous video, he had a noodle master come on.. and talked over him... Jacques Pepin was on... and he talked over him... it really annoys me.

Martin Yan never tastes or eats his own dishes which is so strange to me. And then he uses mixed messages like how great the flavor of ginger can be in dishes but at the same time he says ginger is ugly. He likes to entertain himself without thinking about his annoying sense of humor and how unnecessary his silly chopping skills can distract the audience from the cooking process. Please get more serious, Yan! YM
